In 2003, the world fell in love with Audrey Niffenegger’s The Time Traveler’s Wife. Six years later, it received a movie adaptation starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana. Almost 10 years after the book was released, we are receiving a second adaptation with HBO!
This new version, adapted by former Doctor Who and Sherlock showrunner Steven Moffat, is scheduled to premiere this spring. The series will follow the story of Chicago librarian Henry DeTamble, played by Theo James, who struggles with time travel due to a genetic disorder. During one of his travels, he falls in love with Claire Abshire, an artist played by Rose Leslie.
So how different will this adaptation be? According to Deadline, Moffat says, “We can tell the whole story, the movie was a quite intelligently abbreviated version but abbreviating it you miss all the detail and complexity and make it all about the time travel and not about the love story.”
Desmin Borges and Natasha Lopez are also set to star in the series as supporting roles.
We can’t wait to fall in love with these characters all over again!
