After three years of patiently waiting, we finally have a release date for Stranger Things season 5! Netflix just recently announced that the new season will premiere in three parts. Volume 1 will be released on November 26th, Volume 2 on December 25th, and the series finale on December 31st. Each volume will release at 5 p.m. PST. Sensing a pattern? Looks like Netflix is giving us a holiday gift for sticking with the series for all these years.
Along with the release dates, we also got a small look at the new season. Warning to all Stranger Things fans: expect a wave of nostalgia and lots of chills upon watching. Previously, Netflix had dropped some Behind-the-Scenes photos and videos from season 5.
While Netflix hasn’t revealed much else, let’s take a look at what we know about season five so far.
Synopsis
Netflix has dropped an official synopsis of Stranger Things season five:
“The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.”

We’re pumped to see how the story ends and all of the surprises that will come along the way. One thing’s for sure: there’s going to be a lot of tears. Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers, stated, “People are going to be truly devastated… There’s not going to be a dry eye. It’s going to be sad” in an interview for The Hollywood Reporter. Meanwhile, David Harbour, who plays Jim Hopper, stated, “The end of this episode, when we were reading it, just us reading it, about halfway through, people started crying… Then, about the last 20 minutes, it was just uncontrollably crying, waves of different people,” when asked about the final table read in a live tapping of Happy Sad Confused podcast.
We’d better stock up on tissues.

Netflix has confirmed that the original cast will be returning to Stranger Things, including Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield, Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, Maya Hawke as Robin Buckley, Winona Rider as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Jim Hopper, Priah Ferguson as Erica Sinclair, Brett Gelman as Murray, Jamie Campbell Bower as Vecna, Cara Buono as Karen Wheeler, and Amybeth McNulty as Vickie.
There are also some cast members, such as Jake Connelly as Derek Turnbow, Alex Breaux as Lt. Akers, and Linda Hamilton as Dr. Kay. Nell Fisher will be taking over the role of Holly Wheeler this season.
