Well, friends, we’ve made it to the end. The season finale of The Last of Us, played out exactly like the video game, and fans are now distraught. Is it because of the events that transpired? The fact that we likely won’t get season two until late 2024/early 2025? Or maybe because we’ll have to relive the heartbreak and horror of The Last of Us Part ll through Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey?

Whatever the case, season one of The Last of Us ended with an impressive bang. Not only was the episode perfectly done, but viewership hit a series high. Despite competition from the Oscars, over 8.2 million tuned in to the season finale of The Last of Us.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the season finale of The Last of Us

Before we jump into the tweets, let’s recap. Joel and Ellie finally made it to the Fireflies, and a cure can potentially be made. The catch? Cordyceps grows in the brain. In order to create a cure, Ellie would have to die. Joel, who’s already lost one daughter, can’t fathom losing another and takes action. He kills guard after guard, a doctor (IYKYK), and Marlene to save Ellie.

He lies to Ellie about all of this, saying they didn’t need her to make a cure afterall, and Raiders attacked the hospital. The two head back to Jackson, but not before Ellie asks Joel to swear to her that what he said about the hospital was true. The season ends with the infamous closing lines from the game: “I swear.” “Okay.”

Cue the sobbing of millions of fans and the marching of Joel supporters ready to defend his TOTALLY JUSTIFIABLE ACTIONS. Yes, you’re speaking to Bookstr’s resident Joel Miller Apologist/Defender/Supporter. Now that we’ve got that all sorted, let’s dig into the tweets.
