It’s Bookstr Team Tuesday! Know what that means? It’s time to introduce yet another member of our spectacular team. This week’s feature is the Editorial and Social Media department’s Lexi Dos Santos. When she’s not captioning bookish memes for our socials, she’s busy playing Minecraft with her snack of choice: cookies! Most recently, you might’ve found her satiating her nostalgia with a much-needed re-read of Twilight or revisiting the just-as-iconic Halloweentown movies.
Lexi is as charming as she is resourceful; when asked what she’d do during the Purge, she gave the only right answer: cutting into a life-sized teddy bear and hiding inside it. Genius hack. Now that you’re acquainted with her, let’s dive into five of Lexi’s favorite books.
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
This book is the perfect amount of spooky without being too much! It has an incredible concept and will keep you on your toes.
The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
This heartwrenching but truly empowering story keeps you engaged as you follow the main character’s fight for her rights and everything she believes in. Many plot twists and events will truly have your jaw dropped, and you will not be able to put the book down.
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
The Hate You Give illuminates the injustices faced by African Americans. The story follows young teenagers as they grow and change and realize the many injustices their society and cities impose on them. I love this book because it addresses a topic that I feel very strongly about and that needs to be discussed in daily life.
Twilight by Stephanie Meyer
Twilight because duh!!! Twilight had my heart from the moment I read it at 10 years old. The idea captivated me, and I was fully in! I also found the movies to be quite entertaining when they came out and a bit laughable, which makes them that much more enjoyable! I am currently diving back into my Twi-hard days by rereading the series just for fun.
The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
Harry Potter and his wondrous world! I have always enjoyed these books from a very young age. At the time, the books did an excellent job of activating my imagination and continued to do so even throughout adulthood. I truly love the books and the magical aspects of them. One thing I really appreciated about Harry’s story was the realistic nature of life and how things do not always work out. Life can be hard sometimes, and loss comes to all, and I believe this story captivated that perfectly while still being lighthearted and fun.
As much as she indulges in nostalgic classics, it’s clear by her recs that Lexi likes a story with a purpose. This very much goes in line with her as a person. In our interview, she revealed that she feels strongly about the topics of mental and physical health in particular, saying in part, “I truly want the best for everyone.” So, to that end, we leave you with Lexi’s favorite quote.
