Three books of The Chronicles of Narnia series.

Greta Gerwig, director of the very successful Barbie, Lady Bird, and Little Women, will be directing new adaptations of at least two of the seven children’s classics, The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, that will be aired on Netflix at some point in 2025.

What Can Fans Anticipate?

Despite being aware of the failures of past adaptations, both Netflix and Gerwig plan to avoid those failures in the upcoming series. Some may wonder what Gerwig may do differently in these adaptations, and in an interview with Scott Stuber, Netflix’s streaming film chief, Stuber said:

“Gerwig grew up in a Christian background. The C.S. Lewis books are very much based in Christianity. And so we just started talking about it.”

In addition to the Christian aspect of the series, Gerwig aims to cast new talent to give the films a new and fresh feel. Alongside Gerwig will also be Coco co-writer Matthew Aldrich, who will oversee the films. Filming of the adaptations is set to begin this year in August and will last for about seven months, the films possibly arriving in late 2025. Be sure to keep an eye out!
