Rumors about Miley Cyrus potentially performing during the Super Bowl LIX began circulating in early July and have only escalated. Cyrus was recently honored as a Disney Legend, making her the youngest person ever to receive this award. From achieving early fame as Hannah Montana to winning two Grammy Awards earlier this year, it would be the Super Bowl’s honor to have such a successful pop artist perform on their stage.
Miley Cyrus’s Early Musical Career
Cyrus grew up as the daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, catapulting her into a world of fame before landing a role on Disney Channel’s new series Hannah Montana in 2004. Cyrus played Hannah Montana for several years while the show aired from 2006 until 2011, even touring as her character for the Best of Both Worlds Tour.

Cyrus recorded several albums during her time with Disney, including Breakout in 2008 and Can’t Be Tamed in 2010. She gained an even bigger name for herself due to her wild behavior following the release of her single, Wrecking Ball, in 2013, along with a controversial music video. It was her first number-one hit song in the United States at the time.

In 2016, Cyrus joined the cast of The Voice as a coach for two seasons. She later released a new album, Younger Now, in 2017, which featured the popular single, Malibu, a song she wrote about her then fiancé, Liam Hemsworth. After her public divorce, Cyrus released a new track, Slide Away, for her seven-track EP, SHE IS COMING, in 2019. Plastic Hearts was a full album she released in 2020, which reached number two on the Billboard 200.

Her single, Flowers, was released in 2023 and became her second number-one hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100 charts for eight weeks. It was the first single from her eighth album, Endless Summer Vacation, with the song and album earning her six Grammy nominations. She took home her first Grammy Award for Record of the Year with Flowers and her second Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance.
I had all the perfect things to say but none of them could come out in this moment of shock. I’m happy they didn’t… because (thankfully) prepared perfection just isn’t my story. Life is so much more exciting this way. 🦋 Thank you @mariahcarey for being so iconic. MCxMC4EVR pic.twitter.com/G3KT7hLQDe

Miley Cyrus at the Super Bowl
The 2025 Super Bowl will take place at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. Cyrus had been one of the finalists to play the Halftime Show last year before it went to Usher. No one, including Cyrus and the NFL, has confirmed or denied the news, so it is left unknown for now. Even if it has not been announced, fans are already excited about the possibility her performing when the Super Bowl comes on February 9, 2025.

If she chooses to perform, it will be a big celebration for her because, in 2023, she expressed to British Vogue that she prefers performing for friends and family, rather than at stadiums. She went on to explain that performing in front of thousands of people feels lonely, but she assured BV that it has nothing to do with a lack of appreciation for her fans, whom she adores. Tour and road life is simply not what’s best for her at this point in her life.
Still, a Miley Cyrus performance at the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show would make for an amazing show. Her bringing the talent and energy will certainly get any crowd excited. But we will have to wait and see if the rumors are true and try to not get our hopes up.
