His writing has been a reflection of his experiences, from the nuances of being a British Pakistani man to memories of going to Wimmy Road in Manchester with his family. Moreover, Salam aims to untangle stereotypes while giving light to male friendships.

In anticipation of the full release of Wimmy Road Boyz, you can also check out the novels from the past three winners: Teeth in the Back of My Neck by Monika Radojevic, We Are All Birds of Uganda by Hafsa Zayyan, and The Things That We Lost by Jyoti Patel.

#Merky Books and Showcasing Writers

Incredible writing and storytelling have been part of #Merky Books since day one. As an imprint of Penguin Random House and rapper Stormzy that started in 2018, its goal is to publish books from writers across the UK with stories where readers can see themselves in the pages.

Unpublished and un-agented writers from the UK and the Republic of Ireland aged 18-35 are invited to send submissions for the New Writers’ Prize competition. Like Sufiyaan Salam, winners get a publishing contract, and writers on the shortlist are invited to Writer Camp, which includes various workshops, panels, and more.

Being represented through stories can make a massive impact on readers everywhere, and with just over five years of #Merky Books, it’s clear that we can continue to anticipate incredible stories from the New Writers’ Prize competition participants.
