Maxton Hall – The World Between Us was released on Amazon Prime Video in May and, a month since it first arrived on screens, has already shattered records. It has become the most-watched International Original Series ever on the streaming platform, as well as having “achieved the largest first-week global viewership for an International Original in Prime Video history” according to Deadline. The teen romance series also occupied the top spot on the Prime Video Charts in over 120 countries and territories.

Maxton Hall On-Screen

The Amazon Prime Video series stars Damian Hardung and Harriet Herbig-Matten on opposite sides of this unlikely love story. We follow Ruby Bell, an ambitious and quick-witted student at the haughty private school Maxton Hall. Her dream of attending Oxford is interrupted when she walks in on a millionaire heiress/student in a compromised position with a teacher. She soon learns the student’s brother, the indescribably arrogant James Beaufort, will do anything to keep Ruby from spilling the dirty secret.

But as tensions rise between the pair and hate softens into something sweeter, fans can revel in a swoon-worthy enemies-to-lovers romance in a dreamy boarding school setting. Maxton Hall has much delightful escapism to offer via teen parties, sweaty lacrosse games, and a healthy handful of longing stares and touches, perfect for lovers of The Summer I Turned Pretty. The series also features Queer side characters, heart-warming family bonds and friendships, and all the drama of the Beaufort’s deep-pocketed empire.

Though the TV series is in German, English-speaking viewers can watch it using English dubbing or subtitles on the streaming platform. The TV series is based on Mona Kasten’s 2018 book Save Me, which has yet to be translated into English, much to the chagrin of international viewers. The novel is the first in a trilogy, with Ruby and James’ story continuing in Save You and Save Us. Fans hoping for a similar heart-pounding enemies-to-lovers or academic romance in novel form may find them in Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ The Inheritance Games or Rachel Lynn Solomon’s Today Tonight Tomorrow. On-screen, Maxton Hall fans can turn to Netflix’s boarding school-set series Fate: The Winx Saga, Young Royals, and Elite.

Maxton Hall Has More In Store

Fans, new and old, celebrated as the studio greenlit Season 2 soon after its initial release and success. The studio behind the TV series hopes to finish Ruby and James’ story according to Mona Kasten’s original Maxton Hall trilogy. They attest that the series’ international reception shocked them, speaking to the international desire for more romance and YA stories on screen and on the page. As fans patiently await Season 2, hopes abound also for an English translation of Mona Kasten’s Maxton Hall novels.

An escapist, heart-filled series filled with cinematic shots and a sweet soundtrack, Maxton Hall – The World Between Us is the perfect summer binge-watching material. Have you watched the show?
