Amy Sherman-Palladino has done it again! Hot off the heels of her successful show, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Sherman-Palladino and her husband, Daniel Palladino, have created another series for Prime Video. Étoile promises their characteristic rapid-fire dialogue and wit — all within the exciting world of professional ballet! But this isn’t the first time that Amy Sherman-Palladino has written about the chaotic lives of ballerinas.

Atwirl with Ballet Fever
Amy Sherman-Palladino wasn’t always destined for a writing career. She was trained in ballet and other dance forms throughout childhood and even auditioned for Cats. Though Sherman-Palladino hung up her leotard years ago, the dancing bug never left. Her first — and, perhaps, most famous — series, Gilmore Girls, featured the recurring character Miss Patty. This dance teacher in the small Stars Hollow town was frequently seen teaching her young students all manner of dances, from ballet to tap to jazz.
After Gilmore Girls concluded, Amy Sherman-Palladino’s next venture was her show Bunheads, co-created with producer Lamar Damon. This show is the story of a former showgirl who moves to a small California town and rediscovers her love of dance. Sherman-Palladino’s dedication to portraying ballet was admirable — for one thing, every actress on the show was a trained ballerina. Unfortunately, Bunheads was cancelled after only one season.
Everything We Know About Étoile
Ever since The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel wrapped in 2023, Sherman-Palladino fans have been itching to see what her next project would be. Prime Video just released the trailer for Étoile, and so far, it’s living up to the hype! This new show follows two struggling ballet studios — one in New York and one in Paris — that agree to swap their lead dancers in the hopes that it will shake up the dance scene and improve their incoming funds.
With settings in both New York and Paris, the visuals promise to be striking, and the trailer already gives audiences a taste of Amy Sherman-Palladino’s cinematic directing style, which she perfected during The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Fans of Sherman-Palladino’s other shows will recognize cast leads Luke Kirby and Yanic Truesdale from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Gilmore Girls, respectively. Kelly Bishop, a veteran of all the series mentioned in this article, is set to cameo as well.
Étoile will premiere on Prime Video on April 24, 2025. It can’t come fast enough! Until then, we’ll be watching the amazing trailer on repeat and binging all of Amy Sherman-Palladino’s other shows.
