Jack Lowden, star of the Apple TV+ screen adaptation of Mick Herron’s Slow Horses series, has landed a role in the upcoming film Ella McCay. Ella McCay follows an idealistic young politician who tries to balance her demanding career with familial drama as she prepares to take over as governor from her longtime mentor.

A Star-Studded Affair

Emma Mackie, star of Netflix’s Sex Education and the 2023 blockbuster Barbie, will play the titular character and politician in the film. The film will have a stellar cast, including Emmy winner Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), Kumail Najiani (The Eternals), and household names Jamie Lee Curtis and Woody Harrelson.

James L. Brooks (As Good As It Gets, Terms of Endearment)  will serve as director and producer to Ella McCay. He is joined by producers Julie Ansell (The Edge of Seventeen) and Richard Sakai (Jerry Maguire), with Seth Meier (A Dog’s Journey) as executive producer.

Also Starring Lowden

Ella McCay is not the only upcoming release for the Slow Horses star. Lowden and Captain America: The First Avenger star Hayley Atwell will voice characters in the upcoming science fiction animated adaptation of Rogue Trooper, a classic British comic book.

Lowden will also return for the fourth season of spy-thriller Slow Horses, a show notorious for killing off its central characters. Season three of Slow Horses saw no deaths for the Slough House crew, which includes Lowden’s character, River Cartwright. However, having completed the shooting of season four of the show in Spring 2023, Apple TV+ released a trailer for the upcoming season in which Jackson Lamb — leader of Slough House — states, “…one of my team just died.”

With the promise of a gripping fourth season of Slow Horses and the many other shows and movies he is joining, Lowden fans will likely be seeing more of the star than ever before.
