In Lansdale, Pennsylvania, The Black Reserve Bookstore welcomes visitors with an incredible collection of Black literature for everyone, from children to adults. Inventory goes beyond books as well, namely selling shea butter, incense, apparel, and jewelry, too. For proprietor, Shaykh Anwar Muhammad, opening The Black Reserve Bookstore back in 2017 was an opportunity to share Black stories and history and for visitors to learn something new.

Centered on Community
Upon visiting their online store, you’ll see:
“We are NOT just a bookstore…We ARE AN EXPERIENCE!!!”
via The Black Reserve Bookstore
This quote certainly holds true, as The Black Reserve Bookstore goes beyond selling books. They not only give back to the community but also get the community involved through book signings, readings, and even school supply giveaways.

Muhammad’s heartfelt reasons for giving back didn’t just start with the bookstore, though. From working with children to being a coach for both baseball and football teams, he wanted to help improve children’s lives. Having been reappointed as the president of the NAACP’s Ambler branch back in August of 2023, he has continuously cared about community and advocacy.
From returning visitors to new ones, Muhammad continues to build relationships and rapport as The Black Reserve Bookstore continues to grow and even reach beyond Lansdale.
