Although Obi-Wan Kenobi was listed as a limited series, star and producer Ewan McGregor suggests that a second season might take place.

Ewan McGregor starred as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, appearing in all three films: The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. Seventeen years after the release of the last prequel movie, McGregor returned as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the limited Star Wars Disney+ series of the same name. He starred alongside Hayden Christensen, reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader from the prequel trilogy, and newcomer Vivian Lyra Blair, who plays a ten-year-old Leia Organa.

The miniseries did very well, with the most-watched series premiere on Disney+ in its opening weekend. Despite slight criticism about some Star Wars lore plot holes, Obi-Wan Kenobi was very well-received, with a lot of interest in a possible season 2.

More than two months since the season finale of Obi-Wan Kenobi aired, McGregor has offered a promising update about the possibility of a second season. At Superhero Comic-Con 2022 in Texas, McGregor stated that while there has been no official word thus far, he is positive that Disney and Lucasfilm are just biding their time in green-lighting the project.

Due to the incredible success of the first season, it would make sense that Disney and Lucasfilm would want to capitalize on the show’s success. However, since it was originally announced as a limited series and set between the Star Wars prequels and original trilogy, the second season would have to be written very carefully to make sure that no discrepancies occur with the Star Wars lore from the other movies, series and animated shows.

If a second season is announced, perhaps Star Wars fans might get the return of Natalie Portman as Padme Amidala, Anakin’s wife, and Luke and Leia’s mother, via a holographic projection. After all, in the original Star Wars trilogy, Leia declares that she remembers her mother, something that is not possible if the last time she saw her mother was when she was born.

Given that Portman just returned to Marvel in Thor: Love and Thunder after a nine-year hiatus from Marvel (aside from a voice cameo in Avengers: Endgame and the animated series What If…?), it is entirely possible that she would return for Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2. After all, Liam Neeson returned as a Force Ghost in the season finale of Obi-Wan Kenobi
