It’s never too early to get into the Christmas spirit, especially when How the Grinch Stole Christmas! is getting a sequel later this year!

The 1957 children’s book by Dr. Seuss will be followed by How the Grinch Lost Christmas!, set to be released September 5 this year. The book is being written by Alastair Heim and illustrated by Aristides Ruiz, both of whom have previously contributed to other Dr. Seuss-themed books. This is the first time the Grinch’s narrative will be expanded on without Dr. Seuss — real name Theodor Geisel — who died in 1991.

The new book is set one year after the original, and will see the grumpy green creature prove to all the Whos of Who-ville how much he loves the holiday with the most spectacular Christmas tree ever seen, according to Dr. Seuss Enterprises.

A press release by Susan Brandt, President and CEO of Dr. Seuss Enterprises, said,

“We feel it will be yet another heartwarming piece of Seussian literature that will help families around the world grow their hearts three more sizes as they celebrate the holidays for decades to come.”

In the original, the Grinch sets out to ruin Christmas for the people of Who-ville by stealing all their presents and feasts the night before, only realizing the next morning that Christmas is about celebrating with family and neighbors.

The beloved children’s author has written several illustrated books that remain favorites to this day, including Green Eggs and Ham, The Cat in the Hat, and The Lorax

However, six of his books have been discontinued from publishing following controversy around racist and insensitive imagery in the books. The decision was announced in 2021 by Dr. Seuss Enterprises after reviewing feedback from teachers and specialists in the field.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas! has been adapted many times, including a 1966 animated TV film, a 2000 live-action feature film starring Jim Carrey, and a 2018 animated film starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

Forbes magazine pinned him as the eight-highest earning dead celebrity in 2022 with $32 million in earnings.
