Why did you start your Bookstagram? What do you want your Instagram to bring to the world?
I actually started talking about books online before bookstagram was a thing. At the time, way back in 2013, I didn’t know anyone who loved books as much as I do, and I wanted to find people who did. So I started my blog, and then I created my Twitter account. Ultimately, I branched into Instagram — I haven’t looked back since.
Where are you from?
West Sussex, UK.
Fun Fact about you:
I never thought I would have animals as an adult, but, funny enough, I’ve ended up with three cats and two dogs.
Favorite Books and Authors:
Girl with the Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier, Red Rising by Pierce Brown, Nettle by Bex Hogan, Noughts & Crosses by Malorie Blackman, The City of Stardust by Georgia Summers — there are too many to mention!
What’s a book on your TBR you’ve been putting off reading, and why?
The Secret History by Donna Tartt, only because I’ve been saving it for the -ber months, so I’m hoping to get to it this year!
Name a popular author/book/book series that you haven’t read yet but want to?
Once Upon A Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber is a series I really want to read. I have the books but haven’t gotten around to reading them yet — though I’ve only heard amazing things!
Name a publisher/publishing company that never misses with their new releases?
HarperCollins and Pan Macmillan are two publishers I think really hit the mark all the time.
Aesthetic / Instagram page theme:
My Instagram theme is cozy, soft living, with an emphasis on autumn in the second half of the year.
Favorite indie bookstore:
My favourite indie bookstore is Mr B’s Emporium of Reading Delights in Bath. I love the literal bath of books and the store’s whole setup. The staff are super helpful and friendly, too.
What do you like most about bookstagram?
I love the people on bookstagram! Going from not knowing anyone who was as mad about books as I am to knowing hundreds of people I talk to pretty much every day, I absolutely love it.
What’s a memorable or favorite interaction you’ve had with an author or follower?
My favourite memory is meeting Harriet Evans for the first time. I also have one of my very early book quotes on the back of her book, The Butterfly Summer (not in every version, but some).
Advice for aspiring Bookstagrammers:
Just be yourself and don’t stress about the numbers. This is a hobby for many of us, and it’s supposed to be enjoyable. Use it as a creative outlet and a way to chat with so many other book lovers.
