Couples seem to get all the love from readers, though the characters who are still single are just as amazing! They’re usually side or lesser main characters, but they’re still great characters who deserve love too. Not to mention their struggles with love, or relationship with love, can be just as relatable, if not more, than the main characters’. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at them!
Azriel from the ACOTAR Series
He’s just a guy looking for love after pining for the same person for centuries. Elaine and Gwyn are also there in later books, but he has never found a partner despite desperately wanting one. He’s lonely, especially as his friends find their mates and get together. It’s hard to go through, and we’ve all experienced that loneliness at times, like when friends hang out with their partners instead of us. Maybe one day Maas will give this poor boy a mate.
Queen Bitterblue from Bitterblue
She’s the main character, but in Bitterblue, though not in subsequent books, Bitterblue has a bit of trouble with love. She develops feelings for Sapphire, but due to circumstances such as her lying about being a commoner, her being queen, and his wanting to travel, they don’t work out. They have to let each other go, and even though they find their own partners later, it’s still a bittersweet moment that many people have experienced before and know all too well.
Sunakawa Makoto from My Love Story!!
Sunakawa does have practically every girl at school — and many outside of school — falling for him, but that’s not what makes him relatable. It’s actually his dynamic with his best friend and his girlfriend as a third wheel, albeit a reluctant one. His friend drags him along because he’s nervous about dating her, and he’s just there, chilling in the background. He’s not interested in love at the moment, but he’ll still cheer on his friend.
Kyoko Mogami from Skip Beat!
Have you ever been so spurned by someone you loved that you went to incredible lengths to get your revenge? So did Kyoko! After finding out the one she loved was just using her and didn’t care about her feelings, and that he wanted to send her back to their childhood home, she snaps. She vows to get her revenge by becoming an even more popular idol than him, and she gives her all to this goal. This also leaves her with negative views on love, but who can blame her?
Kugisaki Nobara from Jujutsu Kaisen
Kugisaki isn’t exactly looking for love, but she doesn’t not want it! She’s more focused on school and career to bother, but she does talk about romance a bit, especially when she thought Itadori had a girlfriend and she was pissed he got a partner before her — even though he wasn’t dating her. She does, unfortunately, die fairly early in the series, but she’s still a wonderful, relatable character!
