Move over Sherlock Holmes. It is Dr. Watson’s time to shine. CBS announced a new drama series centered around Holmes’ partner, Dr. Watson and we are in for a treat. Here is everything we know so far about the latest adaptation!
CBS announced a new Sherlock Holmes adaptation and they are definitely putting a twist on the detective story. Watson will be a medical drama with detective elements from CBS Studios and Kapital Entertainment. The show is already in development with Craig Sweeney doing the writing. Sweeney spent five years on the previous CBS Sherlock Holmes adaptation, Elementary.
What do we know so far?
The new drama series will follow Dr. Watson as he resumes his place in medicine a year after the death of his partner, Sherlock Holmes. Watson is head of a clinic that treats rare disorders and is going to be in the spotlight this time around. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle tried killing off the famous detective within his novels, but was met with some very strong feedback from readers, so he eventually resurrected Sherlock for more stories.
Holmes fans are not strangers to adaptations given the many Netflix adaptations over the past few years, CBS’s, Robert Downey Jr.’s, and many others. It will be interesting to see how fans of the beloved duo react to such a big twist in the story.
Deadline reported,
“Watson is a medical show with a strong investigative spine, featuring a modern version of one of history’s greatest detectives as he turns his attention from solving crimes to addressing the greatest mystery of all: illness, and the ways it disrupts our lives.”

With the success of CBS’s previous Holmes adaptation, Elementary, which ran for seven seasons, we are excited to see how this new contemporary Watson-focused adaptation series does.
While we don’t have any information on a timeline or release date, we hope Watson hits our screens soon!
