I don’t know about you, but I’m still reeling from Jonathan Bailey’s role as Viscount Anthony Bridgerton. No doubt, his performance cemented him as a legend in the world of epic period drama romances. However, Bailey is a man of many talents with extensive experience acting on stage and screen. Regarding the latter, Bailey has set his sights on a new exciting project co-starring Matt Bomer.

About Fellow Travelers

Showtime’s newest project is an adaptation of Thomas Mallon’s 2007 book, Fellow Travelers – a historical fiction novel poignantly exploring the sociopolitical climate of the 1950s. Despite its keen political lens, Fellow Travelers is, at its heart, a queer love story.

Under the backdrop of 1950s Washington, D.C, we encounter our protagonist, Timothy Laughlin (Bailey). As a recent college graduate and devout Catholic, Laughlin is ready to commit to the straight-and-narrow path, navigating a career during the political hysteria of McCarthyism.

However, Laughlin’s aims get shaken up when he meets the handsome Hawkins Fuller (Bomer), a State Department official. Their relationship soon grows into a love affair.

Per the newly existing IMDb page for the developing series, the Showtime adaptation has a succinct storyline synopsis that reads: “Follows the lives and volatile romance of two different men, through purges, wars, protests, and plagues, overcoming obstacles in the world.”

Clearly, this is a richly complex, historical novel with harsher political themes. It’ll be very interesting to see how Showtime translates it to screen in a mere eight episodes.

Excited Fans

A show’s success begins with excellent casting.

As Twitter readily displayed, the Jonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer pairing is 100% internet-approved, and there isn’t even a trailer yet to obsess over! Just the thought of these two in a romance drama for the ages has everyone talking (and for good reason, I may say).

The third casting announcement that’s been largely overshadowed by the Jonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer fan craze is actress Allison Williams. She is well known for her role in HBO’s Girls as well as Jordan Peele’s Get Out.

Thus, across the board, Showtime’s newest miniseries is sporting a stellar leading trio. Plus, its production team includes a slew of notable names. For instance, Ron Nyswaner, who recently wrote the screenplay for upcoming film, My Policeman, starring Harry Styles. The executive producers will include Matt Bomer, as well as Robbie Rogers and Daniel Minahan.

Per Variety, Showtime’s Fellow Travelers is set to “go into production in Toronto later this month.” I, like most of the internet, will wait impatiently for a first look at this exciting new adaptation and eventual release date. This swoon-worthy duo is sure to impress in bringing Mallon’s novel to life! Finally, I must say I’m hoping Jonathan Bailey has a line half as stellar as “You are the bane of my existence and the object of all my desires”!
