Fall is the perfect time of year for book lovers. As the temperatures begin to drop and the days become shorter, there’s nothing better than lighting a candle and snuggling into some warm clothing. So, while the leaves begin to fall outside your window, make sure to add a few of these things to your fall-time traditions. Here are the Bookstr teams’ opinions on necessary additions for a cozy fall reading experience.
Our Beloved Fall Items
One of my favorite things about fall is the weather; it feels fresh, with a slight chill. When the air starts to get cooler, I find nothing is better than a warm, thick-knitted blanket. My favorite one is from TJ Maxx, and it has the coziest fall colors that are perfect for setting the mood. I love it because being warm goes hand-in-hand with a comfortable reading setup—you really can’t have it any other way. Just be careful not to fall asleep with your warm blanket!

A fall-themed plushie! Having something soft and snuggly can really make the environment feel like home. Specifically, I’m thinking of the kitty plush with a pumpkin pattern that I recently bought—his fur is so soft!

For me, I always will need a cozy sweater or supersized hoodie, and the more soft it is the better. I have two in mind, one of which is a hoodie from my father’s work that is way too big for me, but it has all the room for me to move around in when I throw a big tantrum because of a surprise twist or squeal when my favorite characters finally kiss. I also have a nice sweater that I got from Etsy for Christmas with a cat that says, “It is okay, everything is fine,” and it is so soft and comfortable. These two items are my go-to, as when the weather gets better, I move from the couch to the porch or simply decide to open a window.

It is required for me to have a Woodwick pumpkin and vanilla-scented candle flickering in the background for the perfect cozy fall reading set-up. Bonus points if it’s gently drizzling outside my window. I can’t read in dead silence for some reason; my mind wanders. If I can hear a candle crackling and the patter of rain, it somehow gets me to focus more. It doesn’t have to be the Woodwick brand, either. A lot of small businesses also make candles that crackle like a bonfire! The vibes are unmatched with these two requirements!!

Even though I am an avid drinker of iced coffee, when the temperature starts to drop, and you can start to feel that crisp in the air, coffee or tea in my oversized mug creates an extra cozy atmosphere. A warm beverage pairs up perfectly while sitting outside on the patio with a warm blanket and a good book. To enhance that autumn mood, my mug would be preferably filled with either a pumpkin spiced coffee or some type of apple cinnamon tea.

Fall has become (almost) synonymous with the spooky season for me. I love sitting under a cozy blanket with my cauldron-shaped mug. It is black with tiny autumn leaves on it. My black cat tends to snuggle up next to me, so I definitely feel like a little witch sometimes! My cauldron is always filled with hot chocolate, cinnamon, and tons of whipped cream. It’s the perfect drink when you’re watching the world turn red outside!

My chunky knit blanket and fox-shaped coffee cup are my autumn essentials. The blanket, with its soft, burnished pink knit, provides unparalleled warmth and comfort, making it perfect for chilly fall evenings. Even though I own plenty of sweaters, nothing compares to curling up with this cozy blanket. And the Target fox-shaped coffee cup adds a playful touch to my fall routine. It’s perfect for sipping bone broth, my preferred cozy drink over coffee as the weather cools. Together, these items make my papasan chair and fireplace nook the ideal spot for reading and relaxing during the fall season.

As we get closer to fall and I (at some point) decorate my living room with fall and Halloween decor, I’ll use my Nightmare Before Christmas mug filled with Starbucks’ Fall Blend coffee. These two are essential for the fall experience. I like the dark taste of the coffee with vanilla creamer and can’t wait for the Holiday blend! The mug is cute with Zero, the ghost dog smiling with side characters from the movie scattered around the mug with a quote that says “Aren’t you scared? Every day is Halloween.” I got it at Walmart mostly to get the small Zero plushie attached to the mug.
