Sometimes, the best part of some movies is seeing the amazing animated animals on screen. Sometimes they are funnier, cuter, or all around the show’s central star. The fuzzy friends make every movie happier… well, maybe not those sad dog movies where you can hear the dog’s thoughts, but that’s besides the point. I asked the Bookstr Team what their favorite animated animal characters from movies are, and here is what a few of them said!
Disney Movies
Bolt was my favorite movie growing up, and my favorite dog movie. He is an acting dog with superpowers! Plus, he is a superhero dog who does everything to save his owner, even if he doesn’t actually have superpowers. It is an incredibly heartfelt movie, with so many amazing fuzzy creatures. Plus, though he isn’t the same breed, he looks like the dog that I own now,

Pua from Moana is my favorite animated animal. I love spotted mini pigs, I think they’re adorable. He deserved more screentime than he had, just because he had such a cute personality.

I love Heihei from Moana! He’s so funny, always finding himself in sticky situations that Moana gets him out of. If I had to choose a spirit animal, it would be Heihei because we are both clumsy and oblivious at times, but we are great companions and will always have you laughing.

I’ve got to go with the 1973 cartoon classic Robin Hood, with the fox. This was already an 11-year-old movie when I was born, but I grew up with this VHS in my collection. I love foxes, for one, and there was something beautiful about his pantsless outfit.. Just sayin’, they drew him to be that way!

One of my favorite animals has to be Hei Hei, the rooster from Moana. He added so much humor to the scenes in which he was involved. He was awkward and clumsy, which I related to and found a lot of humor in. Not to mention, he is charming too.

Bartok from Anastasia is my favorite. He is such a silly little guy. I love him so much. I argue that he’s the best part of the movie because he adds great comic relief every time he shows up on screen. My friends also like to quote him a lot, and I genuinely think Anastasia wouldn’t be the same if he weren’t in it.

This is a bit of a cheat because I don’t think he’s ever been in a movie. Still, I’ve loved Figment, the cartoon dragon mascot of Epcot, since I was a little kid, and my dad took me on the original Journey Into Imagination ride (Dreamfinder, you are missed, RIP to a real one). The original version of him was just this adorable, mischievous little fellow who loved being creative and learning new things. The latest version of the ride does his legacy a little dirty — they’ve taken away a lot of his childish wonder — but he’ll always have a special place in my heart because of my memories from the old ride.

I was obsessed with Coraline growing up, and I loved how Cat could talk when on the “other” side, but not in the everyday human world, highlighting the difference between the two dimensions. His character design is fantastic—cute with just the right amount of uncanny, and he has some coolest lines. Animal sidekicks are the best kind of sidekicks, and without his wisdom and tenacity, Coraline never would’ve defeated the Other Mother.

No matter how often I watched Barbie: Fairytopia as a child, Bibble never made me laugh. Seeing how iconic Bibble is today for people of all ages is fun. I know where my love of sassy animal sidekicks in fantasy novels began!

Right now, I’d say Derpy the Tiger from Kpop Demon Hunters. He’s so cute and funny! How he pops up randomly, transferring notes between Rumi and Jinu, and appearing during the most inconvenient times, causing mischief, adds to the movie’s comedy.

I’d say my favorite is Moro, the leader of the wolves in Princess Mononoke. I love her relationship with San; how they fight together during the action scenes is super cool!

Is it too Gen Z of me to say that Snoopy is my favorite animated animal? I’ve always adored the little guy. He’s just such a sassy, playful, and happy pup. What’s not to like? I also love that he’s a writer who lets his imagination run wild. My favorite movie of his is, of course, the iconic A Charlie Brown Christmas, but The Peanuts Movie animation style and cozy plot captivated my 8-year-old heart.
