In this week’s edition of Bookstagrammer of the Week, we would like to introduce you to Ash, also known in the Instagram world as @ash.reads.horror. For Ash, every day is Halloween, as she presents her followers with spooky book recommendations through an autumn orange hue. Initially using her platform as a way to share her taste in music and books, she has now set her focus on the horror genre. We figured what better way to celebrate Halloween than sitting down with Ash to discuss her favorite haunting reads.

Why did you start your Bookstagram account?
Originally, I started an account to pair music and books. I slowly evolved into featuring mainly books and then moved into almost strictly horror. I absolutely love helping people find new reads.
What’s a fun fact about you?
I work as a vet assistant in a small animal hospital and have three dogs and two cats.
What are your favorite horror/thriller books or authors?
There are so many, so this is hard to pin down. I’m a huge fan of Stephen King, Rachel Harrison, Nat Cassidy, T. Kingfisher, Tananarive Due, and so many more.
What’s your favorite book cover?
Hmm, this is so hard! Maybe Slewfoot by Brom. I LOVE the inner artwork as well.
On your current TBR shelf, what are some spooky books you are hoping to finish?
A few I’m trying to squeeze in before Halloween are: Clown In A Cornfield 2 by Adam Cesare, What Kind Of Mother by Clay McCleod Chapman, and The Final Girls Support Group by Grady Hendrix.
What do you enjoy most about horror/thriller/spooky books?
I love getting spooked and the adrenaline that comes with it. It’s such a rush reading in the dark of night and something terrifying is happening on the page.
Who would you have supply you with a lifetime of books?
My favorite indie bookstore is Death By TBR Books, which is an online bookstore that features horror and other genres. They always take such great care when sending an order. I would love a lifetime supply from them!
Any additional Halloween or bookish things you’d like to share?
Just some reading advice! Horror and reading are subjective. What’s terrifying to you may be a piece of cake for someone else. What was a five-star read for you may be a three for someone else. I think it’s important to respect each other’s thoughts and opinions when it comes to reading. We all have unique experiences inside the pages.
