If you love the Inside Out movie franchise, here is some good news. Pixar Animation Studio’s Chief Creative Office, Pete Docter, teased that there will be a spinoff series for Inside Out in 2025 streaming on Disney+. After a fantastic opening weekend for the Inside Out 2 movie that premiered in theaters on June 14, it is no surprise creators are looking to expand the franchise. The movie broke the record for the biggest opening weekend for an animated film with $295 million worldwide.

With its triumphant success, the Inside Out spinoff series is looking to be released sometime in the Spring of 2025, Docter told Entertainment Weekly in an interview. Docter continued to mention that the series might look into Dream Productions, where Riley’s dreams are created, where we will get to see why dreams might be so weird. Dreams will be the main focus of the series by showing the audience how powerful dreams can be and how much influence they might have on our everyday lives.

Dream Production was introduced in Inside Out in 2014 where Riley’s dreams were created in a movie studio. The studio would produce all of Riley’s dreams, including the nightmares, and depict the way she expresses her fears and emotions in general. That was all we saw of Dream Productions, so the series should add and explain how those dreams are explored with the content inside of it.

We do not yet know how many of the main characters from the original movie like Riley, Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust will be included in the spinoff series. If the Dream Productions we are going to be watching is in Riley’s mind, then we are sure to see her emotions as well, but the spinoff can go in a different direction and introduce some new characters as well. Just as Disney Television Animation did with Pixar’s Monsters, Inc.’s spinoff series on Disney+, Monsters at Work, where the story follows a new monster, Tylor Tuskmon after the events that took place in Pixar’s Monsters University.

Inside Out 2 followed Riley as she began going through many different changes that come with puberty. We still got to see Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust, but we were introduced to Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui. Riley’s main emotions become suppressed when Anxiety takes over, much like it does in real life. Joy must lead her team back to Riley’s headquarters to help her navigate these new and old emotions as she grows up and life begins to change.

Much like the original Inside Out, this movie takes the audience on an emotional rollercoaster as they watch emotions play out on the screen like they do in real life. The movie is a hit and so special to so many people because it is relatable and tackles real-life problems softly, aimed at a children’s audience which makes it easier to understand. Inside Out 2 resonates with viewers because we live in a society today where anxiety takes over constantly in our day-to-day lives, and without joy around due to the struggles that come with growing up, it makes it that much harder to get through the anxious times we face.

If you need more Inside Out before the series is released for streaming, you can watch the 10-minute short on Disney+ titled Riley’s First Date? which was released in 2015. You can watch this along with other animated movies found on Disney+ including Inside Out before Inside Out 2 hits streaming platforms.
