Hard rock icon Alex Van Halen announced his upcoming memoir that is dedicated to one of the most talented guitarists in history, his brother Eddie. Eddie Van Halen passed away in 2020; and though his vivacious spirit still fills rooms through the riffs of his songs, Alex now wants to continue Eddie’s legacy and tell the story of their everlasting bond in his new book.

Van Halen Becomes More Than A Last Name

For those who are somehow unfamiliar, and who’s fathers are not like mine and do not do air guitar to their songs, here is some background…

The electric sounds of the American rock band Van Halen echoed around the country like a roaring thunder for multiple decades. Before becoming rock legends, however, Alex and Eddie Van Halen were just two young men living in southern California.

Just two years apart, Alex and Eddie were born in the Netherlands and then moved to Pasadena, CA. They both were passionate about music and spent time playing at backyard parties. First, they called themselves The Broken Combs, then Trojan Rubber Co, then Mammoth, which held strong for some time as they began to receive more attention.

Their music group Van Halen finally came together with the talented David Lee Roth and Michael Anthony. In the USA alone, their debut album in 1978 sold over 10 million copies. This incredible success was awarded a Diamond certification by the Recording Industry Association of America. After this incredible Jump to fame, they released four more multi-platinum albums. After Roth was replaced by Sammy Hagar as lead singer in 1985, the band released four additional multi-platinum albums.

Their vivacious concerts full of hard rock theatrics and transcending guitar solos made for a very large and loyal following. Causing an Eruption in the rock world, Eddie Van Halen popularized a guitar technique called tapping. His immense talent alone is why he is remembered for some of the greatest guitar solos of all time.

Power of Written Word

Needless to say, middle-aged fathers still dream of following suit to these rock legends. However, before they became some of the best-selling artists of all time, they were just two boys. Of course, they were bonded by blood, but what kept them together over the decades was the unbreakable bond of brotherhood.

After years of writing hit songs that electrified crowds by the thousands, Alex Van Halen evidently knows the power of the written word. Thus, he intends to convey the brother’s unique connection in his new memoir, starting from their humble beginnings.

It will be available as a hardcover and ebook. From moving to America, to becoming household names, to substance abuse, to being fathers, Alex will dive deep in this memoir into his shared experiences with Eddie. He intends to clear the mystic following their career and give a more thorough explanation of Eddie’s life, death, and Alex’s own grief. Accompanied by his recollection will be real photo records of their experiences from Alex’s private collection. As both bandmates and brothers, Alex says, “We shared a depth of understanding that most people can only hope to achieve in a lifetime.”
