It’s no secret how excited we all are to see a new take on the lightening thief and his friends. The new Percy Jackson series from Disney+ not only received Rick Riordan’s praise, but also, Alexandra Daddario, who played Annabeth in the movie adaptations, recently praised the show in an interview with ComicBook.com.
While the movie adaptations of Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson received mixed reviews, the new Disney+ series holds high hopes with Riordan very close in the development process. After many years of planning, the series began filming June 2022. Despite the series having no connection to the films, the previous adaptation stars offer praise and support of the new Disney+ show.
ComicBook.com spoke with Alexandra Daddario about how she felt in regards to the new series. She also reflected on her time playing the iconic Annabeth Chase in the films as Leah Jeffries takes on the role of Annabeth in the upcoming adaptation.
“It’s wonderful. That movie was so great for my career. It was great for my life. It was a wonderful part to play and I’m so excited for her that she gets to play it. The Percy Jackson books are so beloved. I was just a small part of it.”

Daddario even revealed that although it’s been nine year since she played Annabeth, people still approach her about the character. Who can blame them? She is brilliant in those movies!
The importance of the Percy Jackson stories
The Mayfair Witches actress continues, noting just how important show like Percy Jackson are for kids then and now.
“I’m really excited about the series and I hope people love it. I now have stepchildren, and you realize [shows like Percy Jackson] get kids into reading. It gets kids thinking. It gets them understanding about what it is to be different and to struggle with things.”

Thinking back to the premise of the story, we see a group of friends go on an unforgettable journey discovering new things not only about themselves, but about each other. It really doesn’t get better than that. Daddario comments on just how great it is for a future generation to get to experience a new version of the story.
“I think that’s why people love it so much. It’s this really warm, supportive story that teaches you to be who you are and be supported when you’re going through hard times. In addition to just being wonderfully entertaining! I think it’s great that a whole new generation of kids will have the opportunity to see it on TV.”
As of now, there is no set release date for the upcoming series, but you can expect to see it hit the screen around 2024.
