Dedicated fans of Sarah J. Maas’s beloved ACOTAR have been eagerly awaiting news on the series film adaption at Hulu. Unfortunately, it appears that the adaptation has hit yet another snag in production, placing the adaptation in the feared “developmental hell.”

False Report of Cancellation

Following human Feyre Archeron as she navigates the complexities of the Faerie court after killing a fae, it had been reported by TVLine that the show had been canceled.

Correction – Fans Still Leary

But Variety has reported that the source wasn’t entirely accurate and was informed that the show is technically still in development but may have been placed on the back burner. While fans are still hopeful, many have begun to lose faith that the series will move forward. Others, however, feel the series should remain as books, fearing bad casting choices and too many scene cuts.

The adaptation has been in on-and-off production at Hulu since March 2021, and the SAG-AFTA strike in 2023 likely slowed production further. Outlander director Ronald D. Moore was announced as the series director shortly after Hulu picked the series up.
