The year of 2024 has brought some amazing series and movie adaptations of some of our most beloved books. But the year isn’t over just yet! From dystopian sci-fis to musicals, here are some adaptations coming out that you won’t want to miss. Make sure you mark your calendars!

The Perfect Couple

Release Date: September 5th, 2024

Amelia Sacks is the soon-to-be bride, about to marry into the picture-perfect Winbury family. A lavish celebration was planned, befitting the wealthy Nantucket family. But the domineering matriarch, novelist Greer Garrison Winbury, isn’t too pleased with the match. The wedding fete is interrupted by the appearance of a dead body found washed up on the beach. What follows is a messy investigation where no one seems innocent, and everyone seems guilty.

Airing on Netflix, this upcoming series of The Perfect Couple by Elin Hilderbrand stars Nicole Kidman, Dakota Fanning, and Eve Hewson.

Uglies

Release Date: September 13th, 2024

Imagine a world where 16-year-olds are forced to get cosmetic surgery according to a universal beauty standard. This is the futuristic dystopia faced by Tally Youngblood, who initially wants nothing more than for it to be her turn. But when her friend Shay runs away, Tally searches for her and becomes exposed to a not-so-pretty truth about their society.

Soon to be seen on Netflix, Uglies by Scott Westerfield casts Joey King, Chase Stokes, and Keith Powers as the leads.

Heartstopper: Season Three

Release Date: October 3rd, 2024

The magic of the summer holiday is coming to a close, and the heartwarming relationship between Nick and Charlie continues to grow stronger. But university looms in the distance, and emotional struggles plague the pair. In season three, Nick and Charlie continue to navigate their deepening relationship, friendships, and school.

Netflix is on a roll with the continuing of Alice Oseman’s graphic novel series Heartstopper, which stars Kit Connor, Joe Locke, and Yasmin Finney.

The Outrun

Release Date: October 4th, 2024

Living in London, Rona’s life spirals out of control. In recovery and trying to find herself again, she returns home to the natural splendor of Scotland’s Orkney Islands. There, she takes the time to reflect on her complicated past. Her memories of growing up in Orkney begin to meld with those of her life before she begins her journey of recovery.

Hitting the theaters, this adaptation of the memoir The Outrun by Amy Liptrot leads Saoirse Ronan, Saskia Reeves, and Stephen Dillane in the main roles.

Say Nothing

Release Date: November 14th, 2024

When single mother Jean McConville was abducted in 1972, Northern Ireland was never the same again. Say Nothing is a decade-spanning study of The Troubles, following the lives of members of the Irish Republican Army and the community that it divides and impacts.

Releasing on Hulu, this adaption of Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland by Patrick Radden Keefe stars Anthony Boyle, Hazel Doupe, and Lola Petticrew.

Interior Chinatown

Release Date: November 19th, 2024

William Wu has spent his whole life living in the background — that is the background of the cop procedural he barely stars in. But when he witnesses a legitimate crime, William is suddenly thrust onto center stage where his investigation unearths a much larger underground criminal scheme in Chinatown.

Another Hulu release, this TV series of Interior Chinatown by Charles Yu, is led by Jimmy O. Yang, Ronny Chieng, and Chloe Bennet.

Wicked

Release Date: November 27th, 2024

Before they were the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch, they were Elphaba and Glinda, two unlikely school friends. Elphaba’s green skin has made her an outsider her whole life, but at Shiz University, she begins to come into her own. There, she makes the life-changing acquaintance of the popular Glinda, heartthrob Fiyero, and the legendary Wizard of Oz. But injustice plagues the land of Oz, and it’s up to Elphaba to fight and expose it — no matter the cost.

The perfect family film is hitting theaters just in time for the holiday season. This Broadway musical shifts into a movie adaptation of the novel Wicked by Gregory Maguire, which casts celebrities Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, and Jonathan Bailey.

Nightbitch

Release Date: December 6th, 2024

Mother, our unnamed protagonist, lives a normal suburban housewife life — cooking, cleaning, and caring for her toddler. Her routine is interrupted when a series of unusual, surreal things start happening to her. Instead of a mother, she soon becomes… something else.

Not the holiday movie you might be expecting to hit theaters in December, but this adaptation of Nightbitch by Rachel Yoder includes Amy Adams, Scoot McNairy, and Mary Holland.

Your Fault

Release Date: December 27th, 2024
