We all have TBRs for different parts of the year. It makes for interesting and organized reading (says someone with a TBR too big to count). Spooky season TBR lists are the best ones to stack full of recommendations, and I found seven books you can add to yours!
These books are not scary by any means and are the perfect spooky contemporary romances you need on your TBR. We are all familiar with enemies-to-lovers or friends-to-lovers, but have you ever wanted your favorite book character to be a witch or maybe related to Victor Frankenstein? And for your favorite witchy character to fall in love with her enemy, who is also a witch? These seven books can satisfy those spooky cravings.
Anytime I look for a book, I always try to find one with some sort of magical element in it. It just adds to the fun, ya know? These books will definitely get you into the spooky spirit.
1. Go Hex Yourself by Jessica Clare
I read this over the summer and spooky season calls for a reread. Go Hex Yourself by Jessica Clare is a spooky (and spicy) enemies-to-lovers you aren’t going to be able to put down! This will definitely be a “read in one sitting” kind of read, which I think all of us wouldn’t complain about. This novel follows the story of Reggie, who applies for an assistant ad she sees in the paper. She quickly realizes the job is to be a familiar for an actual witch. Pretty typical assistant job, right? Her witchy employer is definitely unusual, but what isn’t unusual is how much Reggie can’t stand her employer’s nephew, Ben Magnus.

2. A Lullaby For Witches by Hester Fox
Hester Fox’s A Lullaby For Witches is definitely the spookiest story on this list. The novel is written in a split perspective, which is always so interesting, and you wouldn’t believe what happens at the end! Fox’s novel is filled with all things that go bump in the night with some surprising twists and turns. Did I mention it has ghost possession in it? Explore Harlowe House and Augusta’s family history with this spooky read. This book is filled with powerful female characters and even has some love sprinkled throughout.

3. The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston
I don’t think I’ll ever stop recommending this book to people. It is that good! You know those books where you’re reading, and you just keep telling yourself that if it doesn’t end the way you’re predicting, you’re going to write a book that does? Well, get ready to experience that all over again. This Good Morning America Book Club pick is the perfect combination of emotional, sexy, and spooky wrapped into one. You’ll be giggling, crying, and speeding through it to find out the end.

4. The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling
Strangely enough, I actually read this book when I spent Halloween in Greece. I couldn’t find anything spooky, so the book took care of that for me! Sterling’s The Ex Hex is filled with witchy mayhem and spells on dreamy exes. Vivienne knows she shouldn’t use her magic for this, but how much damage could her little curse really do? Well, we will learn that heartbreak and curses don’t usually mix well. Rhys and Vivienne end up having to put their differences aside to save the town of Graves Glen. This book will make a perfect addition to your TBR!

5. The Kiss Curse by Erin Sterling
Sterling is no stranger to the spooky reads, as we’ve seen in The Ex Hex. Looking for more books by her? You’re in luck! She made our list twice. The Kiss Curse is a follow-up novel to The Ex Hex featuring Gwyn Jones and Wells Penhallow. Gwyn runs a very cute witchcraft shop called ‘Something Wicked’, and things are going really good for her. But guess who opens up a shop right across the street? Wells Penhallow, of course. When their professional competition leads to some romance, they are determined not to see each other, but that doesn’t go as planned when a coven of witches shows up, and Gwyn starts to lose her powers.

6. Payback’s A Witch by Lana Harper
One of the best things about spooky season books is the spooky place names everyone lives in. It is so unique! Not much can beat a spooky fictional town with a cute name. Emmy Harlow isn’t the most powerful witch, but only because she hasn’t visited Thistle Grove in a long time. You know this book has a dreamy, witchy heartbreaker involved who just so happens to be heir to the most powerful witch family in town. Next thing you know, two witches find out this dreamy heartbreaker has been dating both of them, and they want revenge. Is Emmy going to help? You’ll have to read to find out!

7. Angelika Frankenstein Makes Her Match by Sally Thorne
The last on our spooky list is a contemporary take on our favorite gothic classic. Sally Thorne, author of The Hating Game, put her own spin on Shelley’s novel by giving Victor Frankenstein a sister who takes action into her own hands when it comes to finding the perfect man. Angelika Frankenstein is running out of options to live up to the Frankenstein name of happily ever afters. Have you ever wondered what could happen if you could create your perfect match? Angelika is about to find out.
