The Catcher in the Rye is an older novel published in 1951. J.D. has written this sixteen-year-old New York native, Holden Caufield. Dear Evan Hansen was written by four authors — inspired by the Broadway show — and became a musical film in 2021. Val Emmich is a bestselling author, singer-songwriter, and actor. Steven Levenson is a Tony Award-winning playwright of Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway. He was also a writer and producer on Masters of Sex and co-creator of Fosse/Verdon. Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are the Oscar, Grammy, Tony, and Golden-Globe-winning songwriting team for Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway and A Christmas Story, The Musical. The Duke and I by Julia Quinn (Bridgertons #1)
Julia Quinn is the mastermind behind the Bridgerton series, starting with The Duke and I. She wrote Daphne’s story about her desire to attain a husband in this Regency time period. She wrote the handsome Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset, who is played in the Netflix series by Reg֝e-Jean Page. Quinn has women all over the world wishing they were the leading ladies being swept along the dance floor. The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith (Ripley #1)
Patricia Highsmith created five books in the Ripley series, with The Talented Mr. Ripley as the first. The psychological thriller was initially published in 1955 by Patricia and went on to be published in 2008 by W.W. Norton and Company. Anthony Minghella wrote a screenplay of Patricia’s original, which was published in 2000. The story was also made into a movie in 1999, with the famous Matt Damon playing the role of Mr. Ripley. Now in 2024, Ripley is a limited-time series on Netflix. The story continues to be adapted in different forms and dives into our sinister side.
Tom Ripley is hired in Manhattan by a wealthy industrialist to bring his playboy son, Dickie Greenleaf, back from Italy. Tom is entranced with Dickie’s exotic lifestyle and yearns for it. He falls for Dickie and isn’t happy when he has eyes for an American woman in the arts. Tom Ripley becomes a dangerous man, far from the bullied orphan he once was.
