If there’s one thing book-lovers can’t get enough of, it’s a good drink to complete a cozy reading vibe. Coffee and tea are classic choices, but sometimes it’s nice to switch it up. Maybe try a matcha latte, or hot cocoa, or, now that it’s fall and the weather is cooler, a nice, warm apple cider. This sweet, tangy drink with a touch of cinnamon truly is perfect to complete the fall atmosphere.

If there’s any genre that screams cozy fall vibes, it’s classics. So, for national Apple Cider day, here are some of the best classics to read while cozied up with some hot apple cider!

1. Bleak House by Charles Dickens

This novel has murder, mystery, riveting characters, and even romance, making it an ideal cozy read. I’ll warn you, though: it’s absolutely massive. Bleak House will certainly keep you busy for a long while, so make sure you have a lot of apple cider.

2. Dracula by Bram Stoker

Okay, you may want to save this one for Halloween next year, but in my book, it’s always spooky season. Especially if it’s still fall. There’s nothing quite like sipping on a hot fall drink while reading this classic epistolary novel that will keep you intrigued the entire time.

3. Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë

Ugh, this book will always remain one of my favorite classics. With ghosts, gloom, and a passionate love that is doomed to fail, this story certainly encompasses the Romantic and Gothic elements of its era. This makes it a perfect read to snuggle up with alongside some warm apple cider.

4. Jane Eyre Charlotte Brontë

This moody Victorian novel is another classic that’s perfect to accompany a fall drink. Of course, I had to include another of the Brontë sisters on this list. What can I say? The gothic queens are perfect for a cozy night in.

5. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

Another horror novel that would be perfect for Halloween, but is just as good at any other time of year, is Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Of course, everyone probably knows the story of Frankenstein–it’s been adapted into films countless times over the years. But have you ever read the original novel? If not, you should. (And don’t forget a warm drink!)

6. The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

This novel by Oscar Wilde is another dark classic that’s perfect for a chilly autumn night. Young Dorian Gray will do anything to keep his youth and beauty–including sell his soul. His portrait, however, grows uglier with all his sins. The Picture of Dorian Gray is a compelling story that will have you so intrigued, your hot apple cider might just grow cold.
