I think I speak for us all when I say that a book lover’s obsession doesn’t just lie within books! I mean, as if we only spend money on books (we could actually never). With books comes the obsession with cats in some people, tea in others, and maybe even tote bags, too! But as good as all of the above are, sometimes we need to find something new, something unique that none of the other book lovers have. 1. Vibrant Book Nooks
This is a gift idea that fascinates me the more I research it. Book nooks have to feature at the top of this list because of how beautiful and unique each and every one is to the next. Featuring any background or setting you choose, the nook showcases an entire mini world that looks like it’s straight out of a story. From places within the world of Harry Potter, to more minimalistic designs like the inside of a cosy cottage, book nooks do not fail to represent a variety of styles and themes.
Once the book nook is made, you can place it in the middle of your bookshelf so that it looks like there is a mysterious, hidden universe between the rest of your books. What a brilliant way to make your favourite stories come to life! The price of these varies mainly depending on a) if it’s featuring a particular famous story or movie, b) what extra features they have like lighting or anything that may be sensory, and c) what it’s physically made out of.
2. Handy Book Lights
One of the most helpful gifts you could possibly get a book lover would be a book light or torch. Not one of those ones where you have to pull off each page and replace it onto the next, but one that stays stationary whilst you can enjoy the page you’re reading. Booksellers Waterstones sells diverse lights to help night owls complete their late reading sessions. Waterstones’ “The Little Book Light” comes in various colours and is quite cheap at only £8.99. This particular light can be clipped onto the book itself or, to save the book from becoming heavier than usual can be clipped onto the side of a desk and moved around so the light is accessible.
A more unique version of a book light would be the neck book light. Resting around your neck, the device shines two powerful lights at your book and still aims to provide a nice and comfortable material so it doesn’t irritate. If you’re anything like me and don’t like your book or pages to be weighed down, this might be the most useful way to read in the dark. Reviews on Amazon explain how this product can also be used for other purposes, from knitting and crocheting to fixing and repairing things. This is a multi-use, rechargeable item that should not be ignored.
3. Personal Basket/Box Sets
Want something more personal for your bookish friend? Simply get a hamper or a box and put together lots of small bookish items! Nothing is more unique than this idea because the outcome is completely up to you, and no one hamper would be the same as the next. Book lovers are generally quite easy to buy for, but to kickstart your mini shopping spree, here is a list of things that can go in your basket:
- Pastel highlighters for annotating.
- Blind date with a book, including a book from the receiver’s favourite genre.
- Mini tote bag.
- Tea bags/Coffee.
- Snacks, chocolate, or sweets.
- Bookmarks.
The above list is a general guide of what you could aim to put into the basket. However, if you’re looking to do something more unique, you could always set a theme or topic on which to base the entire thing. That way, everything you buy and include has a specific purpose that links to the overall theme. Another way in which you can make this simple idea stand out from the rest is by purchasing/making personalised items. For instance, personalised bookmarks and merch really struck a chord with the receiver.

4. A Book Vase
Flower enthusiasts, this one’s for you! The book Flower Vase just makes sense. You can get them in a variety of sizes and materials, whether you want them to be entirely see-through to showcase the flowers or more focused on the design of the actual vase as a book. In my opinion, I find them both fascinating, but the see-through one seems cooler because I can see inside it. The majority of them are made to be slim enough to fit on a shelf but wide enough to resemble the measurements of an actual book. There’s no need to worry about your flowers getting squished! They would have plenty of room to grow and soak up that nutritious water. The book vase is for you if you’re looking for a delicate decorative gift that can be placed anywhere.
5. Bookends
Although this gift idea is a very simple one, it could be argued to be the most useful out of all of the mentioned. Bookends are incredibly helpful to those who don’t have the space for lots of bookshelves or a bookcase because they can be placed on desks, etc. These are unique because they come in many different forms and shapes, just like the book nooks. From vases on each end to an illusion of two astronauts pushing against each side, buyers are genuinely spoilt for choice. The possibilities are absolutely endless.
The best thing about bookends is that they can also be easily made. There are tonnes of videos and websites online that detail how to do this, including the Spruce Crafts online website that provides 15 different DIY bookend projects. If you want to get your hands on some crafting, then make some bookends for your bookish lover!
If I were to have to choose from any of the bookish gift ideas above, I would have to go with the book nook because of how mesmerising the insides are. Then I’d do what any other bookish person would do and make my way down the list until I’ve got them all… But on a more serious note, to conclude, each and every item I’ve detailed above provides either a unique decorative piece to make collecting bookish items more exciting or delivers a more efficient way to read books.
