The amount of times books make me late or keep me up until three o’clock in the morning is too many to count. If it involves enemies to lovers, a gripping twist, or characters in the publishing world, the chances of me showing up on time (especially today) are very slim! Let’s celebrate Be Late for Something Day together and get lost in one or all of these book recommendations.
1. The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston
Florence is a ghostwriter for one of the most well-known romance authors, but she suddenly has to go back home to bury her father. When an unexpected ghostly face shows up at her door, she starts to wonder if she can even help with his unfinished business. This book is filled with spooky funeral homes, ghosts, a quaint little town full of thunderstorms, and things that go bump in the night. What better reason to be late?
2. Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood
Ali Hazelwood has given us another STEM romance novel and I’m here for it. Bee gets the job opportunity of a lifetime working with NASA, but all the happy feelings disappear when she realizes she has to work with Levi Ward. A man with dreamy eyes who makes it very clear he despises her. Will Bee put her heart on the line? She is always asking “What would Marie Curie do?” but the real question is, “What will Bee do?”
3. Book Lovers by Emily Henry
If you’re going to be late, it might as well be because of Emily Henry. A personal favorite of mine that follows Nora, a kick-ass New York literary agent whose life revolves around books, to the small town of Sunshine Falls. While on the sister trip she never saw coming, she keeps bumping into none other than Charlie Lastra. Charlie is an editor from back in the city who Nora just can’t get rid of. Dive into this romance novel that explores family, enemies to lovers, publishing, and friendship. This will definitely be a read-in-one-sitting kind of book!
4. The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
We’ve all wondered what our life could’ve been like if we had made the other choice, but what if you could actually see for yourself? The Midnight Library is a place filled with endless books about what could have been. Nora finds herself faced with the decision of changing her current life for a different one. Travel through the Midnight Library with her as she finds out what it truly means to live.
5. In Five Years by Rebecca Serle
What would you do if you woke up five years in the future with a completely different life? Dannie Kohan has to answer this question when it happens to her in Rebecca Serle’s In Five Years. Dannie’s life is going according to plan when she lands her dream job and says yes to her boyfriend’s marriage proposal until she wakes up the next morning five years in the future for one hour. She is in a different apartment with a different ring on her finger beside a different man. Find out what happens in the hour that she just can’t shake!
