While horror movies come out all year, it is undoubtedly their time to shine in the fall. Whether you like to go to the theater or wait for the movie to release for streaming, these are three movies you should add to your viewing list this season.
Hold Your Breath (October 3)
This film is set in 1930s Oklahoma and follows a young mother who will do anything to protect her family. The mother soon becomes convinced that there is a presence in a dust storm that threatens her family in this psychological horror movie. This film will premiere on Hulu on October 3 for streaming.
Smile 2 (October 18)
Global pop star Skye Riley is about to embark on a new world tour. But when terrifying things begin to happen to her, Riley is overwhelmed by the escalating terrors of fame and must come to grips with her past before it buries her entirely. This film connects to the first one by the “monster” responding relatively the same way. A person is targeted if they have seen someone commit suicide and begin to see people everywhere smiling at them in an eerily haunting way. You can see this movie in theaters starting October 18, and if you need a refresher, Smile can be seen most notably on Hulu, Paramount, and Amazon Prime Video.
Heretic (November 8)
Two young Mormon girls enter a man’s home, hoping to convert him to Mormonism, and soon realize they are unable to leave. When this man’s questions become more and more threatening, the girls must figure out how to escape. Will their faith help them to survive, or will it be the very thing standing in their way? Note that this movie was recently moved so that it would be released a week earlier, so it can be seen in theaters starting November 8, not the 15th, as had been previously announced.
So, grab some friends and some popcorn because these horror movies will surely be thrilling. And make sure to have a palate cleanser prepared afterward if these films end up being too much: just maybe don’t plan on that being Bambi.
