These authors have been hyped up by the bookish community, and, like pumpkin spice in fall, they are worthy of the attention. Why? Because their books are just that good (and addicting to read)!
If you haven’t heard of Colleen Hoover or any of her books yet, are you living under a rock? She has taken the romance novel world by storm and secured her spot as one of the most popular authors of the genre. While many of her books were circulated on and gained an audience through TikTok, she certainly can not be described as a “BookTok Author.” While there is nothing wrong with that title, it is inaccurate for her considering the dedicated fanbase she grew before TikTok was even created.
It Ends With Us, Verity, and Ugly Love are some of her bestsellers and most widely known books. However, even her less popular ones, such as Regretting You and All Your Perfects, are just as emotional and impactful. If you haven’t already had the experience, prepare to have your heart ripped apart and then put back together while reading one of Hoover’s books.
Jenny Han has been a trending author recently in pop culture as well as book culture due to her trilogy The Summer I Turned Pretty being adapted into an Amazon Prime Video original series. Published back between 2009 to 2011, many fans might have given up hope on the book series ever being brought to the screen, but Han knew what she was doing.
Coming off of the major success of the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy and its subsequent Netflix movie adaptations, Han created and produced a show that was extremely well received by OG fans of the book and new fans alike. Factors such as the casting, the soundtrack, and the electric chemistry between the characters caused the show to be so successful, even with major changes to the plot included.
A coming-of-age story, a summer beach house, and a love triangle featuring two very attractive boys. What more could you want in a YA romance series? Thanks to the show, even more people have fallen in love with Belly, Conrad, Jeremiah, and all of the Cousins Beach regulars!
While Emily Henry has written other books in different genres, her three Rom-Coms are what she is known for and the reason that she blew up on BookTok. She has a way of writing that is so distinctly unique and her own that a true fan could spot her writing anywhere. Typically sticking to either the friends to lovers (People We Meet On Vacation) or enemies to lovers (Book Lovers) tropes, Henry’s grasp on writing witter banter and simmering chemistry between her love interests is unmatched. It is one of the reasons she has developed such a cult following of readers who will buy whatever she writes.
Much like how pumpkin spice fanatics act once the colder weather comes around each year, fans of these three authors will eat up anything they put out. But as both a book and pumpkin spice lover, I’m right there with them!
