Avatar: The Last Airbender might have ended ten years ago, but it’s such a fan favorite that the story has been kept alive in comic books. In collaboration with Avatar co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, Gene Luen Yang has been the principal writer of these stories until now. Dark Horse comics revealed to Entertainment Weekly that two new graphic novels are due out later this year with new writers.
One, Avatar: The Last Airbender – Team Avatar Tales, is an anthology featuring Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Toph in various adventures. Some stories will be more on the fun side, while others will explore deeper issues, as fans have come to expect from the franchise.
The other, Avatar: The Last Airbender – Imbalance Part One, takes place after the events of the series. Erin Hicks teams with artist Peter Wardman to tell the story, which will follow Aang and his friends as they try to bridge a gap between benders and non-benders in an industrialized town.
If “industrialized” rings any bells in fans’ heads, it’s because The Last Airbender follow-up series The Legend of Korra featured themes of industrialization and a steampunk aesthetic. It seems like Imbalance may begin to bridge the seventy year gap between The Last Airbender and Korra, which will delight fans.
Team Avatar Tales is due out September 5th, and Imbalance will hit shelves October 10th. Check out the covers below!
