Maybe you’re already a fan of Nicole Kidman’s work on the award-winning adaptation of Liane Moriary’s Big Little Lies and are waiting in anticipation for Season 2 of the HBO series. While you will have to wait a while longer (many speculate that it won’t air until sometime next year), you can start getting excited about Kidman’s next project: a film adaptation of Meg Wolitzer’s novel The Female Persuasion.
The book, which was published just over two weeks ago by Riverhead Books, follows a shy college freshman named Greer who hopes that her life will be changed after she meets Faith Frank, a woman who has been at the center of the women’s movement for decades. Faith leads Greer down a new, more exciting path, but while Greer could not be more exhilarated, she slowly begins to realize that life still has a few curveballs to throw at her and that reality is not what she made it out to be.

The adaptation will be produced by Kidman’s production company Blossom Films, which also produces Big Little Lies. Kidman herself will be starring in the all-important role of Faith. According to Entertainment Weekly, Kidman hinted last week at developing the project and posted on Instagram that she “didn’t need to be persuaded” to adapt the novel.

Kidman is partnering with Lynda Obst to produce the film. Obst has served as a producer for such memorable films as Sleepless in Seattle, How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days, and Interstellar and more recently has worked on television shows such as Hot in Cleveland and Good Girls Revolt.
There isn’t a tentative release date for the film yet, but in the meantime, do yourself a favor and read the novel. You can find it here on Amazon.
