Kit Harrington Joins the Cast of Marvel’s ‘Eternals’!

Kit Harington may be done with his role as Jon Snow but he isn’t taking a break from working anytime soon. The actor will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as revealed as Disney Expo this weekend. In addition to some major announcements, it was revealed that Kit Harington has joined the cast for Marvel’s upcoming Eternals film, which is slotted for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4. Rumors of Harington’s enjoyment were propagating for sometime but it was confirmed when Harrington joined his fellow cast and crew on stage August 24th.

Kit Harington has been announced to play the role of Dane Whitman, better known as the Black Knight in the comics. The character is a swashbuckling swordsman, with the title and role passed down through the generations since Arthurian time. Each Knight is different but each wields the Ebony Blade, a magic sword that was forged by Merlin himself. Dane Whitman became one of the Avengers, fighting alongside Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America against the world’s greatest threats. The Black Knight doesn’t have much relation to the Eternals, so its likely his origin will be tweaked to better fit the cosmic nature of the characters. Still, we’re sure the MCU will stay true to the character and showcase his knightly visage in all his glory.

Other Game of Thrones actors are joining the Eternals cast, including Richard Madden announced in the role of Icarus, alongside Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, and Kumail Nanjiani. Harington has not commented on his role yet, nor as Marvel given away many plot details but based on the source material and the cosmic nature of the MCU, we expect it to be a big superhero epic.

Are you excited to see Kit again on the big screen? How about the Eternals themselves? Tell us in the comments!

Marvel Unveils Exciting Plans for Phase 4

It’s been a big week for Marvel. Avengers: Engame just beat out Avatar as the highest grossing film of all time, and now they have released their plans for phase 4 of their cinematic universe at Comic-Con: San Diego. The full list includes: Black Widow, The Eternals, Thor 4: Love and Thunder, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

One of the biggest surprises came during the announcement of Thor 4 (Nov. 5 2021) when director Taika Waititi handed Natalie Portman Thor’s hammer, and confirmed her role in the movie as the new female Thor. The film will be based around Jason Aaron’s comic book series that saw Jane Foster become Lady Thor after Thor found himself unworthy of wielding his hammer.

“Feels pretty good.” Portman told the crowd, “I’ve always had a little hammer envy.”

Don’t worry Chris Hemsworth fans; he’ll be reprising his role as Thor.

One of the other major announcements was Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (4/12/2021). This will be the first Asian-American superhero film to grace the presence of Marvel’s cinematic universe. The original Shang-Chi comic appeared almost fifty years ago and follows the story of martial arts guru Shang Shi as he fights as a hero for hire and eventually joins The Avengers. His father is of Chinese dissent and his mother is white/American.The role will be played by Chinese-Canadian actor, Simu Liu.

The film is evidence of an increased effort in Marvel to add diversity to their roster of mostly white male superheroes.

Marvel also confirmed the heavily-speculated release of a Black Widow solo film that will explore the past of Natasha Romanoff played by Scarlett Johansson.

Johansson told the panel: “I get to play Natasha as a fully realized woman, in all of her many facets, and I’m excited for fans to see the flawed side of her.”

Black Widow’s past has taken a back seat over the course of Marvel’s cinematic history, and fans have been eager to explore her as a fully developed character. The film, set in Budapest, was officially labeled as a prequel.

Other titles that are expected to be released on streaming platforms are The Eternals, Wanda Vision, Loki, Blade, What If…?, and Hawkeye.

Marvel’s universe has been set to full-throttle as they add new characters and expand upon fan-favorites. As we saw in phase 3, plot lines will intermingle and alliences will be formed. Who knows what this is all leading to. The only thing that is certain is that as the films grow to a cresendo, the stakes for the Marvel universe will be higher ever before.

Mahershala Ali to Star in ‘Blade’ Reboot!

Exciting news for Marvel fans! Over the weekend, at Marvel’s panel that reveled their next slate of films there were some exciting news revealed! Marvel’s Phase 4 films include several sequels to prior films including Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Black Widow. A few new titles were revealed to be underway as well, including television properties such as Loki, Wanda/Vision, and Falcon and the Winter Solider, in addition to original, new properties such as The Eternals and Shang Chi. But the most exciting announcement of the panel came at the very end, where seconds before the end Kevin Fiege, the head executive of Marvel Entertainment, revealed that a Blade reboot was coming. Even more exciting, two time Oscar Winner Mahershala Ali is to star in the lead role as the titular comic book character.

For those unaware, Blade is an African-English superhero from Marvel Comics. Originating from The Tomb of Dracula as a supporting character, Blade is a vampire/human hybrid, with the powers of a vampire but able to walk in sunlight and to stave off his thirst for blood. Despite his cool concept, Blade didn’t become truly popular until a trio of films in the 1990s were adapted for the big screen, starring Wesley Snipes as the vampire slayer. Blade and Blade II were well received for their action, stylish flavor, and Snipes’s performance but the third film, Blade: Trinitywas so badly received that it sunk the franchise. Despite this, Blade has remained a popular character in the comics but has never truly risen to a starring role. Blade’s look is fairly simplistic, as he wears dark sunglasses, a long trench coat, and wields a sword.

Which makes it so surprising that Blade was unveiled is that Blade was already done in movies, so seeing him again is incredibly surprising. Not to mention getting an established actor like Ali to portray the superhero. It’s also incredibly exciting to see another black superhero besides Black Panther headlining a movie, showcasing that Marvel will be pushing for increased diversity in the future. Now, Blade was only just announced and isn’t even on the featured slate of films for Phase 4, so we likely won’t be seeing him anytime soon. But still, this surprise announcement was the highlight of the panel for us.

In 1976, Jack Kirby created The Eternals. The story goes:

Millions of years ago, the fictional aliens called The Celestials experimented on primitive humans and created The Eternals as an offshoot of the evolutionary process. Newly born, the Eternals are tasked to defend Earth, but find themselves caught in a war between their creators and their destructive counterparts, the Deviants, in what is already an eon conflict.

Eventually, the Eternals battle with Greek, Roman and Norse gods before leaving Earth to explore the stars.

According to Variety, Richard Madden, most famously Robb Stark on Game of Thrones before his infamous death scene, is now in talks to join the cast alongside Angelina Jolie, who played the titular character in Disney’s Maleficent and Kumail Nanjiani, who played Dinesh on HBO’s Silicon Valley.

Right now information is scare. In fact, much of the film is not known. We don’t know who Angelina Jolie and Kumail Nanjiani have been cast as and we don’t have a release date.

All we know that The Eternals, Black Widow and Shang Chi are all in development, but no specifics will be revealed until the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home this July 2nd.
