Exciting news for fans of Magic: The Gathering! Anthony and Joe Russo, the visionary directors behind numerous Marvel movies such as Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame have, according to Polygon, been announced to adapt Magic: The Gathering for Netflix!
Magic: The Gathering is a collectible fantasy themed card that debuted in 1993. A game of Magic represents wizard-like figures called planeswalkers who cast spells, use artifacts, and summon monsters. The game is extremely popular, with twenty million players in its current incarnation and providing a unique fantasy experience that can played anywhere.

Magic: The Gathering on Netflix intends to be an adult themed animation series, joining the likes of Devilman Crybaby, Castlevania, and Ultraman. According to Netflix, the series intends to cross genres, covering themes of fantasy, horror, and action. The story will deepen the universe of the card game, covering Planeswalkers and their history with an intricate storyline featuring well known heroes and villains of the game. The Russos will be working closely with Wizards of the Coast to adapt the series, with Bardel Entertainment, who worked on The Dragon Prince, Teen Titans Go!, and Rick and Morty will be animating Magic.
Wizards of the Coast is excited to bring Magic to the big screen, with their rich and diverse cast of characters, monsters, and magic systems being adapted for Netflix’s series. No set release nor cast has been announced yet but the results, with all the creative talent involved, should prove very exciting.
