When someone we love goes through something tragic, we often don’t know what to do. This doesn’t stop one man from writing a book to help his wife to remember.

About seven years ago, while Camre Curto was pregnant, she suffered a serious brain injury. Steve Curto, her husband, took her to the hospital where she, unfortunately, “went into eclampsia, suffered a grand mal seizure and also had a stroke” (Fox Now). Camre had to have an emergency C-section. However, only a few days after, she had no memory of doing so.
Steve and their son, Gavin, had to spend a few days without having Camre in the home, as her parents took over the responsibility for taking care of her. When Camre came home, Steve realized that “she doesn’t remember the first day we met, or even our own wedding, or our engagement, or the birth of our son or what happened to her” (Fox Now).
Reading this, I couldn’t help but think about the movie 50 First Dates, which a movie starring Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler, with Barrymore’s character suffering short-term memory loss as a result of a head injury in a traffic accident. As this is not the same story line as Camre Curto’s life, but both Adam Sandler’s character and Steve will do anything to make sure that the women they love can love them all over again.
Dealing with a newborn and Camre’s memory loss, took a toll on Steve. What kept him going was knowing that even though Camre couldn’t remember him, she knew that she loved him. For this reason, he decided to title his book But I Know I Love You.

Thanks to technology and the improvements in science, Camre’s memory is getting better. Although very small, this grand gesture is more than any of us could imagine ourselves doing. Let this be an inspiration for others to strive to the best we can every day.
