Stephen King, of all people, rickrolled his fans for April Fool’s day when he falsely announced his bid for governor of his home state of Maine.
A website appeared called King 4 Maine 2018, reading:
After years of criticizing Governor Paul LePage, Stephen is considering making a run for Governor in 2018. Friends and fans alike have been telling him that he could do the job better. He has taken that encouragement to heart and decided to test the waters, but would like your input.
The site included what seemed to be a video of the King of Horror explaining his plans to run for governor of Maine and replace GOP governor, Paul LePage. However, when you click the video, you are redirected to the music video for Rick Astley’s song Never Gonna Give You Up. This is known as ‘rickrolling’ and is a common trick played online.
The redirection page includes the message:
Are you crazy?! Political office is one horror story that even Stephen King doesn’t want to do. Happy April Fools’ Day!
