Basketball Legend Kobe Bryant Develops Fantasy Sports YA Series

Kobe Bryant had an amazing career in basketball, winning five NBA rings and, most recently, an Oscar for Best Short Film, for his feature Dear Basketball. After retiring in 2016, Bryant has been scoring outside the courts with some new projects in the works.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Kobe Bryant wants to develop an YA series and middle grade books that feature young athletes. Bryant’s multimedia company, Granity Studios, focuses on ways to tell captivating original stories about sports. The company works with acclaimed writers, animators, and directors to fabricate emotional tales on the importance of sports within each story.

The YA series hopes to adapt the written stories to live-action, animation and even theater productions. Bryant’s current book Mamba Mentality: How I Play, has been received rave reviews and quickly hit the New York Times bestsellers list.

Two books will be released next year: The Wizenard Series: Training Camp and Legacy and the Queen. Both stories focus around sports and compare the ability to play a sport to having a magical power.

Featuring characters from different racial and ethnicities, the stories are already in development to be animated.  The Hollywood Reporter quoted Bryant as saying “I built Granity Studios as a platform to create and share original stories to inspire today’s young athletess. There’s surprisingly little content that combines the passion of sports and the traditions of original storytelling. Granity Studios will fill that void.”

Granity studios is working to develop projects for a new generation of young athletes, adding magic to sports and providing young audiences with a new way to get into psychical recreation.
