Wesley Snipes Reacts to Mahershala Ali Being Cast as Blade

Mahershala Ali was announced as Blade as this years San Diego’s Comic Con at the end of the Marvel panel. This caused an uproar, but not all it was great.

Let’s face it, this century we’ve had many live-action incarnations of characters: five Peter Parkers/Spider-Men, two Batmans (soon to be three), two Professor Xs. The few characters we’ve only had one of are Tony Stark/Iron Man, Steve Rodgers/Captain America, Logan/Wolverine, and Blade.

Despite staring in a breakout comic book movie after Batman & Robin but before X-Men and Spider-Man and the second film being directed by Guillermo del Toro, Blade has fallen away from the public consciousness.

This is largely due to the third film being such a disappoint, although the stories surrounding that film have become stories to behold. Notably, Patton Oswald spoke about the film.

When Wesley Snipes himself was asked if it was true that he didn’t get along with the direct, Snipes responded with this gem:

“That may have happened. I wouldn’t say it was frequent. Because our whole crew was banished to another side of the island of production. The only way we could sometimes get messages, since we didn’t have the radio, was to get it there by courier or pigeon sometimes.”

Since then, Snipes had gotten into some tax trouble and been largely absent, unable to play the character in a possibly fourth outing. Then the character returned to Marvel, and now we’re getting a second actor as Blade.

Since Snipes put such a staple on the character, dishing out lines like, “Some motherfuckers always trying to ice-skate uphill” and “If you wanna take the hard road, be my guest, pal. But I promise you by the time this is over, you’re gonna wish they never cut you from your mother’s…” before censoring himself with a gunshot.

Despite this, not everyone was as excited as others.

Some were even curious of how Snipes himself would react.

However, Wesley Snipes, the original Blade, has released a amazing statement:

To all the DAYWALKERS losing their minds right now, chillaaxx. Although the news comes as a surprise, it’s ALL good. Such is the ‘business’ of ‘entertainment!’ Much peace to the MCU crew – always a fan…Honor and respect to the grandmaster Stan. Congratulations and Salaam to Mahershala Ali, a beautiful and talented artist whose expressions I look forward to experiencing for many years to come. Inshallah, we will someday work together. Most importantly to my loyal fans, the incredible outpouring of love is overwhelming. I am grateful for the never-ending support. So, ‘nah fret nah worry, it’s not de end of de story.’ Welcome to the Daywalker Klique.

It’s good he’s looking forwards to Mahershala Ali cast as Blade.

“Wait up!” I hear you say, “Isn’t Mashershala already cast as Cottonmouth in Luke Cage where he was killed off far too early?”

Well…

So far we know about the project is this: Kevin Feige confirms the project will take place in Phase 5 and Marvel has been discussing giving Snipes a supporting role in their new reboot.

Beyond that, anything is up for grabs. In the meantime, we can all agree with this:
