Exciting news for Witcherfans! The full trailer for The Witcher has been released, the television adaptation of the bestselling novels and video game franchise. The trailer premiered at San Diego Comic Con, showcasing the series in all its glory for the world at last. The trailer showcases Henry Cavill, who stars in the lead as Geralt of Rivia, the titular witcher, a monster hunter trained in the arts of killing. Henry Cavill discussed the series premise, where he said this:
A witcher is a young boy who has been left to fend for themselves and taken in by the group called witchers and they are trained to levels of almost inhuman agility and endurance. And from there they become mutants, most of these children do not survive. After that they are trained in the art of monster hunting and travel the world hunting monster for coin, that is their one and sole purpose in the world.
The series is based on the popular book series, which in turned inspired an even more popular role-playing series of games, which culminated in the critically acclaimed Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The show will be maintained by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who has also helped bring Netflix’s other TV shows, such as Daredevil and The Umbrella Academy to life. The show will not be adapting a specific novel but rather, drawing from the franchise in general to tell the story of Geralt on the small screen.
The series trailer looks very promising, seeming to focus on the origins of how Geralt met the series other protagonist, Ciri, a child of destiny that is wanted by multiple forces throughout the books. The show looks very expensive, showcasing a fully realized world full of breathtaking locations, great costumes, and brief glimpses of the monsters Geralt hunts. This could be the next Game of Thrones for fantasy fans looking to get their fix on tv. Presumably we’ll hear his voice at some point, however. Glimpses of Ciri and Yennefer are also seen, along with clips of magic and sword fighting. The whole tine has a grim atmosphere, showcasing its trueness to the text. Most intriguing is at the end, where Geralt faces off against some sort of giant crab monster rising out of a swamp and his eyes turn pitch black. We’ll have to watch to see what this is all about.
The Witcher will likely premiere sometime this Fall, although no official release date has been announced. Are you excited to see the world of the Witcher brought to life on TV? Watch the trailer below and let us know in the comments!
Following his role as Superman in movies such as Man of Steel, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League, Henry Cavill will be playing Sherlock Holmes in Harry Bradbeer’s upcoming film, Enola Holmes.
The film will be an adaptation of Nancy Springer’s series of six novels, the first of which, The Case of the Missing Marquess was released in 2006. It tells the narrative of Sherlock Holmes’ younger sister, Enola Holmes.
Millie Bobby Brown, who is best known for her role in as Eleven in Stranger Things, will play the titular Enola Holmes. Helena Bonham-Carter will play Enola’s mother.
Sam Claflin, Fiona Shaw and Adeel Akhtar will also star. Brown, along with Paige Brown, will produce under their PCMA Productions company as well as with Legendary. The story, written by Jack Thorne, revolves around a missing teen whose father has been murdered. It is currently not clear when the movie will begin filming, or when it is set to be released.
After a very long production cycle, the Netflix adaptation of The Witcher is finally ready to debut sometime later this year. The show will star Henry Cavill, the British actor famous for playing Superman in Man of Steel, in the lead role as the titular Witcher: Geralt of Rivia. The series is an adaptation of The Witcher series of novels by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski centering around the adventures of Geralt in the fantasy world of an unnamed continent inhabited by elves, dwarves, and other races living alongside humans. Geralt was trained at a young age, gifted supernatural powers and skills in order to slay deadly monsters that roam the land. The books have had a cult following worldwide and have been adapted into a series of best selling video games.
So far, there have been eight books in The Witcher series, three stand alone tales while the rest revolve around a story arc concerning a girl named Ciri, a child of destiny who is wanted by supernatural forces for her power and whom Geralt must protect. Netflix debuted the first poster and a few preview images for the series, showcasing Henry Cavill’s Geralt along with a few other characters from the series, such as the sorceress Yennefer and Ciri. While obviously just teaser images, the poster and images are extremely exciting. Geralt’s appearance looks extremely close to the actual games, bringing the grittiness we’ve come to expect from the character. In addition, the looks of Yennefer and Ciri feel close to the spirit of the original works while being slightly altered for this adaptation of the source material. Overall, these images are extremely exciting and we can’t wait to see these characters on our screens when the series debuts sometime in the fall. Netflix also released the official longline for the series, which also sounds very exciting:
Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.
Fantasy fans, this one is a must see! How do you like this teaser? Are you excited for The Witcher’s debut? Let us know in the comments!

He always been.” and she is excited as we are to see Cavill bring Geralt of Rivia to life.
He was my first meeting. I didn’t have writers or scripts yet – just a greenlight and a lot of passion. That was four months ago, and I’ve never forgotten the passion he brought. He IS Geralt. He always has been. I’m so thrilled to welcome HENRY CAVILL to the #Witcher family.
Due to the popularity of the video game and book series, Cavill and fans are hyped to see it become an on screen hit. I don’t know about you but I’m looking forward to the fantasy series on Netflix coming to life and when it finally gets released, I will be front and center.
