If you’re a fan of The Selection series by Kiera Cass, then you must be as excited as I am that this is being adapted into a Netflix film. The movie will be centered around the first novel, which was released back in 2012, and it’s set in a dystopian future where thirty-five young women are chosen to present themselves in front of the future king, Prince Maxon. It focuses specifically on one of the young women, America Singer, who comes from the lowest class in society. At first, she has no intention of winning over the Prince, due to her love life back home, but over time she begins to grow strong feelings for Maxon. It’s like The Bachelor mixed with The Hunger Games, minus the killing.

Haifaa Al -Mansour, a Saudi Arabian filmmaker, will direct the film. Denise Di Novi will produce along with Pouya Shahbazian, who was a part of the Divergent franchise. They’re excited to work together and according to Haifaa, she is overwhelmed by how passionate the fans of the series are about this film. Bookworms are always passionate about the books they love, and they are also the biggest critics when such books are being adapted into a film.
This movie is something fans have been wanting for a long time. Although I personally think it would work better as a series than a film, at least we’re getting an adaptation. I can’t wait to see who will be portraying America and Prince Maxon, and I hope they will continue to adapt the rest of the novels into films, because fans are going to want more than one!
