‘Keeper of the Lost Cities’ is being Adapted for Disney Plus!

The best selling middle grade fantasy series, Keeper of the Lost Cities, is becoming a movie! The 8 and a half book long novel series (and counting) is written by Shannon Messenger. The first book was published back in 2012! And now it’s going to be a live action movie on Disney Plus. The adaptation of the movie will be directed by Ben Affleck through this production company, Pearl Street Banner. He’s co-writing the script with Kate Gritmon, and Madison Aniley will be the executive producer.

The series tells the tale of Sophie Foster, a 12 year-old girl who just learned she’s an elf with some extraordinary abilities. The novels are packed with adventure, friendship, family, and even a little bit of a love triangle. The first novel, which is probably what the movie will focus on, will be about Sophie discovering her powers and learning her place in the Lost Cities. The latest novel in the series, Keeper of the Lost Cities, Cities Unlocked, was just released in November. It’s a novella to hold fans over until the ninth book is released, fingers crossed it’s released this year!

Barnes and Nobles has named the recent release the Best Young Reader Book of 2020 and it’s also a California Gold Medal winner. These are high honors and isn’t surprising because this series is great for readers of any age. It’s about time this amazing series found someone to adapt it. Now, we just have to wait and see who the cast will be.
In the meantime, you can read the books right here.
