'Pan's Labyrinth'

Release Date for ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ Novel Announced

If you’re into fantasy films, or historical films, or any films, you’re probably a fan of Guillermo Del Toro’s 2006 film, Pan’s Labyrinth. Typically, books get turned into films, but HarperCollins recently announced the opposite: a novelization of the Del Toro classic.

The film came out more than a decade ago, so you may not remember the finer plot details, but I bet you remember the astonishingly creepy “Pale Man,” or, “Mr. Eyes-On-My-Hands.” *Cue hysterical screaming.*

If you managed to escape that image being burned into your retinas, consider yourself lucky—I’ll refrain from providing the visual, but if you’re brave, you can watch at your own risk!

Once you get over the Pale Man, you can appreciate the film for its depiction of a dark, fantastic world that resembles something straight out of a Grimm’s fairytale. It tells the enchanting story of eleven-year-old Ofelia, who endures life with her mother’s new husband, the cruel, sadistic Captain Vidal. Throughout the film, she completes a series of tests, and comes ever-closer to rediscovering her true identity: a princess of the underworld.

For those who love books, it’s often tempting to read a novel before seeing its film adaptation. In this case, though, the novel comes well after the film debuted. It will be co-authored by Guillermo Del Toro alongside Inkheart author, Cornelia Funke. The release date has been set for 2 July, 2019!
