On Tuesday, the trailer we’ve all been waiting for dropped. The epic trailer for Game of Throne’s final season dropped and oh boy, it is a doozy.
Among the spine-tingling images highlighted in the trailer are:
+ Cersei sitting alone in her throne room, crying as she sips a glass of wine. Cersei upset? This doesn’t bode well at all…
+ Jon Snow and Daenerys, side by side, standing before Drogon and Rhaegal. It seems the fan theories are coming true, as it looks like Jon Snow will finally embrace his Targaryen heritage and ride a dragon.
+ Grey Worm donning his helmet, flanked on all sides by his Unsullied brothers in combat, no doubt preparing to fight the enemy.
+ The magnificent dragons flying over the landscape, showcasing epic splendor and beauty as they soar together.
+ And most tantalizing of all: the army of Winterfell standing assembled with many familiar faces of our heroes among their ranks. Before a single hoof of the Night King’s horse stomps into view, facing Winterfell’s defenders.
Suffice to say, this season will be utterly epic in scope, with these battles perhaps surpassing everything we’ve seen before. The final season is only a little over a month away now and we, for one, can’t wait. Let’s just hope everyone’s favorites make it out of this final chapter alive.
Typically, with a cast this diverse and expansive, it’s nearly impossible to pin-down what counts as a leading role. So, up until now, HBO has only submitted GoT stars for supporting actor Emmy nominations, making this the first time in history they have ever gone after a lead actor win.
This is big news for the series itself, as we see it shifting into an intense storyline driven by fewer characters and plots.
Game of Thrones beat the record with its sixth season for more Emmys won than any other tv drama in history. But, the only GoT actor who’s ever actually taken home an Emmy for their performance in the series is Peter Dinklage, who took home the supporting actor win in both 2011 and 2015.

Peter Dinklage is going after another supporting role nomination this year, alongside Lena Heady (Cersei Lannister), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister). Diana Rigg (Lady Olenna Tyrell) is up for a guest star nomination, as well.

It looks like the Game of Thrones has been played, now let’s see who wins!
If you were hoping to see some seriously soap opera-inspired fallout occur when the relationship between Daenerys and Jon Snow is revealed to external characters in the upcoming (and last) season of Game of Thrones, well sorry not sorry, you may be disappointed.
As our very own and wise Ser Davos Seaworthy recently reminded us, there are more urgent storylines that will play out in season 8 and the drama caused by our beloved couple will have to take the backseat.
In an interview with Metro, actor Liam Cunningham crushed the hopes of us drama enthusiasts by prioritizing the storylines awaiting us in season 8 of Game of Thrones and putting the Dany and Jon affair below another huge plot.
Though the actor did suppose that the Northern king may have to “deal with the fallout” of his incenstuous relationship with the mother of dragons, the fallout sounds insignificant compared to another problem.
There is a bigger issue with the Night King coming through the wall, so there is a more immediate problem than that. Incest goes down the priority list when there is a huge army coming down to kill everyone. Perhaps they will deal with that later, I don’t know.
Given that the final season of Game of Thrones is rumored to have a mere six episodes, we think Cunningham’s theory may be pretty spot-on.
While the show has clearly established an ominous vibe pertaining to the growing relationship between the aunt-nephew duo (i.e. a worrisome Tyrion Lannister playing peeping Tom on their lovemaking), maybe we shouldn’t be surprised if a resolution happens pretty quickly.

Given that season 7 spent a pretty long time dramatizing the tension between Arya and Sansa (just to resolve it abruptly in the finale, turning fiery glances into butterflies and rainbows), fans may only witness the dramatic fallout occur (and resolve) over an episode or two.

He hung out with old pals including Kit Harrington, sharing a drink and what we imagine were some crazy conversation, which may have involved sports, the weather, and…perhaps even the gorgeous Khalessi whom they’ve both bedded. Who know!
As Game of Thrones fans remember, Daenerys was initially involved with Khal Drogo and their relationship helped to morph her into the strong and fierce Khalessi that she is. As the recent season finale showed, her relationship with her nephew-lover Jon Snow is progressing rapidly so we’re quite sure she is moving on just fine.
Judging by their smiling faces, though, we’re guessing her name was left out of the conversations.
He also had a chance to reconnect with show runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Judging by their smiling face, we can go ahead and assume that the down-to-earth actor has no ill feelings towards his character’s fate on the show.
Then again…David Benioff’s smile may just be hiding some pressure from Momoa’s huge hand wrapped around his neck.
Momoa also had a chance to spend time with actors whom he didn’t see on set when he was on the show so long ago. Momoa posted the following photo of his embrace with actor Kristofer Hivju who plays the feisty fire-kissed giant Torment Giantsbane…also known as the potential maybe-one-day partner of Brienne of Tarth.
Also, may I point out, that Momoa’s post wishes luck to the crew and show runners as they begin filming the new season. The fact that Hivju happened to be there too gives us all the hopes possible of seeing his character make it out alive in the upcoming season.
Now, if Momoa himself could make an appearance on screen….well that isn’t exactly too much to ask for! At this point, given the controversial timelines and events of the last season (including the resurrection of a very much beloved dragon), then the reserection of Khal Drogo doesn’t seem that unreasonable. I mean sure, his deceased body was burned postmortem, but again….it’s Game of Thrones you never know what could happen.
Speaking of the Khaleesi, Momoa had a chance to meet up with his moon and stars played by Emilia Clarke. Clarke posted this adorably adorable photo on Instagram earlier this week along with this sweet caption. There is clearly no love lost between the pair (watch out Jon Snow).
What perhaps is more endearing about this photo is the parallel between the pair off screen and on. Khal Drogo and Daenerys Targaryen are one of the few iconic couples on the show, though Mamoa left the series in 2012, leaving fans grieving over the pair’s separation. While we’ve been slowly warming up (or not) to the possibility of Daenerys and Jon, this adorable duo still warms our heart.
As mentioned, Momoa has kept up his support of the series, particularly when it comes to his former leading lady. Momoa shared his enthusiastic awe of his Khaleesi’s epic victory against the Lannister army when the fourth episode of season seven ‘The Spoils of War’ premiered earlier this August.
“FUCK ME. It’s been so hard for me not to talk about the greatest show on earth. And I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone So I have been taking it easy on the posts. But holy shit that was intense. Wish I was there to fuck shit up So proud of Dan and David the cast and crew of GOT Aloha DROGO. DRAKARUS … [Emilia Clarke] miss u mama your a badass super proud.”
I think it’s about time someone started a petition to help his character make a comeback on the show. While Momoa’s reunion with the Game of Thrones cast warms our heart, seeing it play out on screen would be even better.
Game of Thrones gets heavy between all of the arson, murder, and political espionage. Luckily, fans have a pretty killer sense of humor. Below are some of the funniest memes that spawned from the well of constant suffering that is Game of Thrones.
