The novel tells the story of Circe, the daughter of the god Helios, as she is banished by Zeus due to her powers of witchcraft. As her powers grow and she becomes more of a threat, she draws the wrath of both men and gods.

The eight-episode-long first season will be headed by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the writers of the rebooted Planet of the Apes trilogy. The series will also share that trilogy’s producers.

HBO Max head of original content, Sarah Aubrey, talked up the series during the announcement:

Circe tells an epic story of love, loss, tragedy and immortal conflict, all through the eyes of a fierce female lens. I’ve been a longtime fan of Rick and Amanda’s work and their ability to simultaneously build epic imaginative worlds while creating emotional dynamic characters. In partnership with Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping, we have the dream team to bring Circe to life.”

Have you read Circe? Are you excited to see the news about this adaptation?
