Cara Delevigne Hopes New Novel Will Destigmatize Mental Illness

Supermodel, actress, and now-author Cara Delevigne told interviewers on British chat-show This Morning that she hopes her upcoming book Mirror, Mirror will inspire readers to speak out and seek help.

The book is inspired by her own ‘troubled’ teenagehood and the ‘mayhem of hormones and feelings’ involved in being a teenager. She felt it was her ‘duty to write a book they could really connect to.’

Delevigne has spoken openly about her struggle with teenage depression and how she felt guilty for experiencing it, despite her privileged upbringing. She said that she didn’t know how to talk about her feelings but hopes that she can be an example of someone who has gone through serious mental health difficulties and come out the other side.

The page for Mirror Mirror on the HarperCollins website says:

When one of their friends mysteriously disappears, a group of teens are forced to confront the challenges and secrets of their lives in this edgy and suspenseful coming-of-age tale. Cara Delevingne reveals another facet of her amazing talent with this powerful novel about identity, sexuality, gender, emotional pain, the complicated world of social media, and the dangerous weight of appearances that are not what they seem.
