Hello! This week we’re taking a break from spooky vibes to bring you a bookstagrammer that’s a self-titled mermaid queen. Check out Candice/@canxdancexreads‘s amazing content!
Why did you start your Bookstagram:
I transitioned my Instagram from personal to just bookstagram sometime in May of 2017.
Where are you from:
Michigan, USA.
What do you want your Instagram to bring to the world:
A different selection of books than just the usual hyped ones and also a unique feed.
Fun Fact about you:
I have two middle names.
Favorite Bookstagrammers:
@old.enough.for.fairytales @heartof.tati and @literaryfaery are amazing and have become my besties.
Favorite Books and Authors:
Heather Lyons is my top fav and everything she writes. The Deep End of the Sea my fav book ever.
Fictional Crush:
Cassian from A Court of Thorns and Roses.
TBR List:
I am a complete mood reader so I can never stand by a TBR.
What’s Your Special Approach to Content:
I try and be as engaging as possible. I love making people smile.
Aesthetic / Instagram page theme:
I’m known as the mermaid queen.
How often do you post:
Every. Single. Day.
What does your Bookstagram mean to you:
It’s my special place and as a sahm it’s my me time.
Favorite Bookstore:
Barnes & Noble.
Who would you have supply you with a lifetime of books:
Heather Lyons and everything she writes.
Author to take a selfie with:
Heather Lyons
Favorite book cover:
I can’t pick one…but have I mentioned The Deep End of the Sea?
Book you have claimed to have read that you didn’t:
Maybe a tour book?
When did you know you had made it as a Bookstagrammer:
When I finally hit 10k this year.
Favorite fandoms:
Harry Potter, Maas, Shatter Me, Percy Jackson.
Advice for aspiring Bookstagrammers:
Be consistent. Don’t look at the numbers. Find yourself and don’t try and do things that stress you out. Find a few set-ups and themes so you can make it fun.
Additional bookishness:
Bookstagram is such a special place to so many but has been going through so much darkness lately. We really need to just focus on our love as a community of books.
Hello again! Today’s bookstagram feature is Morrighan/@morrighanrose. She’s got a gorgeous gothic vibe to her posts that are somehow cold and cozy at the same time.
Why did you start your Bookstagram:
I stumbled onto this incredible community back in 2017 while reading reviews on Goodreads. I knew instantly that I had found MY PEOPLE. This quirky collection of bookdragons is my forever home.
Where are you from:
I live in the mountains of Pennsylvania with my four children and a strange collection of furry critters.
What do you want your Instagram to bring to the world:
I am a total book pusher! I would love to inspire people to be themselves, but also– please read all of my favorite books so I can cry and fangirl with you!
Fun Fact about you:
I used to be a total extrovert. You could often find me at music festivals, dancing with a flaming hula hoop in front of large crowds.
Favorite Bookstagrammers:
I have a soft spot for the darker feeds– I’m loving @of.books.and.bone @thehookandthetale and @twinklesandstars lately!
Favorite Books and Authors:
Here comes the book pusher– RED RISING by Pierce Brown will always be my number one. The amount of both heartbreak and hope in that series never fails to consume me completely. Some runners up are The Black Witch Chronicles by Laurie Forest and An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir.
Fictional Crush:
EEEEP! Only one?! I collect book boyfriends like my kids collect Pokemon. Darrow of Lykos is pretty incredible though.
TBR List:
I honestly don’t even want to know how many books are on this list. My tentative August TBR will include Empire of Gold, the conclusion to The Daevabad Trilogy by Shannon Chakroborty because I NEED to know what happens to my babies!
What’s Your Special Approach to Content:
I try to be as honest as possible with the books that I post and the reviews that I write. I feel like my followers would rather hear me rave about a book I enjoyed than just post the latest pretty cover out there.
Aesthetic / Instagram page theme:
Oh, this is a tough one because my feed is ever evolving. I think the cozy, forest witch vibe has been a constant aesthetic of mine for quite a while now. It reflects my personality rather well!
How often do you post:
I post once a day. As a single mama of four with a full time job, I just don’t have the free time to be on here or post as much as I would like.
What does your Bookstagram mean to you:
The Bookstagram community and the friends that I have made here are incredible. This honestly is my getaway, my escape from the monotony of everyday life.
Favorite Bookstore:
I will always have a soft spot for Barnes & Noble, but I’ve been loving on some of the smaller, privately owned shops in my area.
Who would you have supply you with a lifetime of books:
Umm, anyone that wants the job, I’m doing interviews all week!
Author to take a selfie with:
Jay Kristoff! His constant smirk makes me happy, and he’s at least a foot taller than me.
Favorite book cover:
Ahh! There are SO many I love. Fable by Adrienne Young is a recent favorite, as well as Beyond a Darkened Shore by Jessica Leake!
Book you have claimed to have read that you didn’t:
Dante’s Inferno for a world history class. My brain was not having it!
When did you know you had made it as a Bookstagrammer:
Hahah, I remember last year when a follower picked up a book based on my recommendation. It blew me away! People actually listen to my often poorly worded rants and raves about books. It boggles my mind.
Favorite fandoms:
Did I mention that I love Red Rising? I’m a Howler to the end. Nevernight is another of my favorites and the art for that series is just *chef’s kiss*
Advice for aspiring Bookstagrammers:
Find your aesthetic, post what you love, and show your quirky side!
Additional bookishness:
I just want to take a moment to thank everyone in this amazing bookish community– from the aspiring Bookstagrammers to the people that base their livelihood on readers. I see you. I appreciate you.
Today's feature is Ova/@excusemyreading. She's a web developer book lover with an account filled with colors and plants to make you smile.
The author, the illustrator, the editor, the publicist. Sometimes, in the world of books (while it’s a world we love to live in) the publisher is forgotten about, but no more!
