Irreplaceable Book That Inspired ‘Lord of the Rings’ Used as Cutting Board

The Exeter book was inscribed in the 10th century and is considered by many to be one of the building blocks of English literature. However, for something so invaluable, it’s had a pretty eventful life.    On its cover, knife marks can clearly be seen, indicating that at one stage it was employed as a cutting board. There are also stains from a mug that have soaked through several of the pages.
