Children’s Classic ‘The Tiger Who Came To Tea’ Coming to TV

Judith Kerr’s classic children’s book The Tiger Who Came To Tea is coming to the small screen. Channel 4 UK announced that it would be developing an animated retelling from the animators of the adaptation of We’re Going On A Bear Hunt which also aired on the network.

Written by When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit and Mog the Forgetful Cat author, Judith Kerr, the book tells the story of a tiger who shows up at the home of a girl named Sophie.

Since its publication in 1968, the book has become extremely popular. When writing the book, Kerr said she was inspired by her own daughter:

The Tiger Who Came to Tea is a story I made up for my two-year-old daughter, who was very bossy. I used to tell her all sorts of other stories as well, which I thought were perfectly good, which she dismissed with the words “Talk the Tiger”. So when she and her brother were both at school I thought I’d try to make it into a picture book.”

The adaptation is scheduled for release this Christmas.
